This haunting lullaby/love song in Spanish is a gem! It would be great material for a student or faculty conservatory recital or public art song concert, especially as part of a set (see other Spanish compositions by William P. Gorton: Luna reluciente, ValentÃa, So el olivar). Intended to be sung in Castillian Spanish (i.e. the title would be pronounced bre-tho, with flipped r and theta-ized z and c where appropriate). This song happens to be Dr. Gorton's premier composition, and it is a real favorite with singers and audiences alike. Intermediate level.

Haunting and poignant, this beautiful Spanish art song would be a great addition to a recital program, especially in a set (see other Spanish compositions by William P. Freedom's Cost is a beautiful lament on the price that has been paid by the few for so many, full of irony. With an 18th-century text by William Collins, this art song has been written with the style Schubert in mind (it was a Composition Modeling class project I completed when working on my doctorate). Haunting and lugubrious, it captures the essence of the ironic text. This would be great material for a faculty or student conservatory recital, or a public art song concert. Very accessible for less-experienced singers, yet providing plenty of depth for interpretation.

Fenesta che lucive is a haunting, new rendition of the well-known Neapolitan text about the death of the lover's girl, Nenna. Gritty, and tragic, the text is masterfully set in a minor-key lament, with an unforgettable melody and strong dramatic contrasts. This piece would be a great addition to a student or faculty conservatory recital, or public performance of art songs or Italian (Neapolitan in this case) traditional popular songs (in the vein of Core 'ngrato, Torna a Surriento, O sole mio, etc.).
