I have ridden the wings of the dawn looking for a place to lie my heart to rest, flying over seas and hills I found your splendid home.
How could I explain what I felt when I saw your light, when I heard you calling my poor self.
I feel your spirit looking after my lonely soul, I know your head is placed on my troubled head; I hear your voice: it's as sweet as a dream.
Please don't let me lose my way hold me within your light.
How could I close my heart to your blessed charity?
Stars and skies tell me of your loving harmony.
I see your love in the brightness of the moon; darkness will fade away the sun will shine over me.

Program note.

I did my first foray into poems by the French surrealist Paul Éluard with a song cycle of eight poems from his Mourir de ne pas mourir. And now I am diving into his series of poems entitled, Répétitions. I found a beautiful little book of these poems with illustrations by Max Ernst. There are nine of these pen and ink drawings and I chose for the song cycle nine poems which were matched each with a Max Ernst illustration.

1. Max Ernst
2. L'Invention
3. La parole
4. Nul
5. Les Mouton
6. Nul
7. Luire
8. Raison de plus

By Sharon Wilson. By Sharon Wilson. Arranged by Sharon Wilson. Contemporary,Easter,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Score. 8 pages. Sharon Wilson #3872535. Published by Sharon Wilson (A0.565304).

This Scripture song based on Psalm 57 verses 1 and 7-10 is formatted as a vocal solo with piano accompaniment (3 staff piano-vocal score). This solo arrangement is in the key of G major and has a vocal range of one octave, from the first B below middle C to the first B above middle C (B3 to B4). The purchase price includes a 5-page combined score plus a 2-page solo score. Duration 3:00.

This Psalm is a prayer written by David while in a cave when he was fleeing from Saul (1 Samuel 22). It is presented here as a song of meditation and praise, drawing the listeners into an atmosphere of prayer and trust in God. The simplicity of the melody allows the vocalists to focus on the words and dynamics as the audience is drawn to the beauty of God's Word expressed musically.

The lyrics were adapted from the King James Version (KJV) and the World English Version (WEB) and are printed below:

Lyrics:
VERSE 1
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me,
For my soul takes refuge in you,
In the shadow of your wings.
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me,
For in the shadow of your wings
My soul will always find
Refuge, refuge, refuge in You.

VERSE 2
My heart is fixed on you, O God, my heart is fixed on you.
I’ll sing and give you praises.
I’ll wake up at dawn and give you thanks.
I’ll sing your praises to all people,
For your love is great.
You loving kindness reaches far beyond the starry skies.
Wake up, wake up, wake up and sing.

ENDING
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me,
For my soul takes refuge in the shadow of your wings.
For my soul takes refuge in the shadow of your wings.
Be Merciful to Me ~ Psalm 57 (for Vocal Solo with Piano accompaniment)

By Stephen R Dalrymple. By Stephen R Dalrymple (Dalrymple Designs). Arranged by Stephen R Dalrymple. Praise & Worship. Score. 35 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #6753169. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818377).

Infinite, Eternal, Invisible, Undetectable God
♫ original song by Stephen R Dalrymple
♫ based on 2 Chronicles 2:6, John 1:18, John 4:24
♫ CCLI song # 7193328
♫ Does God, the Creator of the Universe, have a face, eyes, ears, hands, arms, and feet? (Eze 39:29, Ps 34:15, Isa 59:1, Ps 98:1) Does He have wings like a chicken that He uses to comfort us? (Ps 91:4) Does He travel on the back of a cherub? (Psalm 18:10) Are the clouds a hiding place for God? (Job 22:14) Is His residence a place called heaven? Is the earth the footstool of His throne? (Isaiah 66:1) Does God change His mind? (Ex 32:14)
♫ The poetry of the Bible, (like other ancient literature) is full of figures of speech. Figures of speech explain things in words and ideas we can understand. The Bible abounds in figures of speech such as simile (comparison using like or as), metaphor (comparison not using like or as), synecdoche (using a part for the whole), deliberate hyperbole [obvious exaggeration], verbal irony (the tone of voice tells that the speaker means the opposite of the words he or she is using), personification (attributing human features or feelings to animals or inanimate objects), anthropomorphism / anthropopathism (gives human attributes, feelings to God.) [or animals, inanimate objects, cartoon characters.]
♫ God is spirit. (John 1:18, John 4:24) He is infinite, eternal, invisible, undetectable. The humanlike descriptions of God are actually figures of speech that help us understand and identify with Him. Descriptions of God’s eyes, arms, feet, wings, etc. are all figures of speech that tell us God is present everywhere, sees everything, hears everything, and cares about every part of his creation. (God is imminent).
♫ The heavens, even the highest heavens cannot contain Him. (2 Chronicles 2:6, 6:18) God is separate from the universe. (God is transcendent.) Scientific measurements cannot detect Him because He is not in the universe, the universe is in Him.
♫ Just as you can feel your fingers and your toes at the same time, God knows what is happening in every atom of the universe simultaneously. Back to the original question.
♫ After swimming laps in our local pool, I like to float on my back a bit. It reminds me that as the water surrounds me and supports me, so I am constantly encircled and upheld by God’s actual presence

Composed by Liz Nedela. 20th Century,Christian,Classical,Contemporary,Religious. Score. 24 pages. Liz Nedela #1000466. Published by Liz Nedela (A0.1419026).

This piece is a Song Cycle of three songs.  The titles of the songs are lines from the  poem.  The poem is by e.e. cummings, used with permission.  Each song emphasizes portions of the complete poem.  The composer's intent is to place the same emphasis as Cummings portrayed in his recitation, a copy of which is online; see the YouTube link.

NOTE: The mp3 uses samples of each of the three songs, using this guide:
Song #1: Beginning of recording to #1:37; Measures 1-41 of the score
Song #2: From #1:57-3:28 of recording; Measures 1-46 of the score
Song #3: From #3:43-end of recording; Measures 1-57 of the score

1. a true blue dream of sky, states the entire poem, with emphasis as portrayed in
Cummings recitation. The voice is lyrical and theatrical, with spoken words and
humming, as well as singing. The accompaniment implicates solidity, predictability,
strength of the nature of God; but also wonderment, freedom and being light-hearted.
The composer chose to title this song using a line in the poem, rather than the most
used title — which begins the cycle of key elements of the poem used to title and
comprise songs 2 and 3 — thereby placing importance as Cummings recited.
2. of life and of love and wings, is more lyrical and lighter in nature than song #1.
This song emphasis God’s creations, and seemingly joy He displayed while creating them, giving them wings of freedom for life and love.
3. unimaginable You, is more reflective, using a modal tone — all to emphasize the
reactions of Cummings to the wonderment and magnitude of God.
He concludes with:

(and now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

Also please note:  The price includes permission to make two copies of the pdf.
