Music in the Air is a musical written by Oscar Hammerstein II (lyrics and book) and Jerome Kern (music). It introduced songs such as The Song Is You, In Egern on the Tegern See and I've Told Ev'ry Little Star. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1932, and followed the team's success with the musical Show Boat from 1927.

Synopsis

The musical takes place in Bavaria during the 1930s but some contemporary productions have modified it to present day.

In the simple mountain town of Edendorff in Bavaria, music teacher Dr. Walther Lessing has a beautiful daughter Sieglinde. She is in love with Karl Reder, the local schoolmaster. Karl and Sieglinde travel to the sophisticated city of Munich and try to get a song written by Walther and Karl published. Karl becomes enamored of glamorous operetta diva Frieda Hatzfeld while Sieglinde is smitten by Bruno Mahler, an operetta librettist with whom Frieda lives. Mahler wants Sieglinde to appear in his new work Tingle-Tangle. Frieda moves out of Mahler's apartment and moves to an hotel where she can see Karl on a regular basis.

And love was born is a musical number sung by Cornelius in ACT 1.

I set my first Christina Rossetti poem back in 1998 for my song cycle, Love Songs. The poem A Birthday begins with the most delightful set of words, My heart is a like a singing bird ... Looking for something to set for my next song cycle I rediscovered Christina via his brother, the poet and painter, Dante Gabriel Rossetti. IMHO, he is much more brilliant as a painter, and his sister is the true genius poet!!! Christina's father emigrated to England from Italy in 1824. Consequently, all four children (Maria, Dante, William and Christina) spoke Italian at home when they were young. To my delight many of Christina's early poems are in Italian. And since I am an insufferable Italophile, this song cycle will consist only of her poems in Italian. I. Versi II. Amore e Dovere III. Amore e Dispetto IV. L'Uommibatto V. Cuccurucù! VI. Acompañado por la orquesta del maestro peruano Jorge Huirse Reyes, nacido en Puno, el 30 de agosto de 1920 y fallecido en Lima, el 11 de diciembre de 1992.

Felipe Pinglo Alva es conocido como el Maestro de los Autores y Compositores del Perú. Nació en 1899 y fallece en 1936 a los 35 años. A él le pertenecen la letra y música de los valses peruanos El Plebeyo y El espejo de mi Vida de gran difusión en la Argentina, él no llego a conocer en vida la trascendencia de sus temas.
