That's when the music takes me is taken from Neil Sedaka's Solitaire LP. The song was notable as it was one of the only songs for which Sedaka wrote the lyrics in addition to the music. He often finishes his song using the song. (The ending of the arrangement is inspired by how he performs the song live, rather than the recording edit). It reached #18 on the UK singles chart, #27 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and #7 on the US Billboard Easy Listening chart. This arrangement was written for a barbershop chorus, and as such the lowest voice part has a lower range than is custom for choral SSAA writing. The melody sits with the lead for the vast majority of the song, but with the bass part taking a few of the lowest notes. Please note: in keeping with normal barbershop practice the men's barbershop voicing names are used (tenor, lead, baritone and bass) and an octave-shifted bass clef is used for the baritone and bass parts. A Little Respect was written and recorded by English synth-pop duo Erasure, and is known as one of their signature songs. It reached #4 on the UK singles chart, #14 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and #2 on the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart. This arrangement uses words from the song in place of neutral vowels to create an early ostinato (without boring the harmony parts!) before expanding into homorhythm in verse 2. The melody is mainly in the lead part, with the final motif from the chorus passed to the tenors. In the final verse, a key change moves the melody to the basses and baritones, with the leads taking the final phrase. This arrangement was written for a barbershop chorus, and as such the lowest voice part has a lower range than is custom for choral SSAA writing. A Beautiful and Haunting Traditional Welsh Song - with English lyricsMyfanwy tells the tragic story of the unfulfilled love of a poor young poet for a beautiful young noblewoman who lived in Dinas Bran castle. The remains of the castle stand above the Welsh town of Llangollen and is the scene setting for the sad love story of Myfanwy. It was first published in 1875.The song has featured in many films and television programmes and has been sung by almost, if not every single Welsh male voice choir. In modern times, it is still a favourite as sung by Cerys Mathews, and Bryn Terfel and is also sung without exception at every Welsh Rugby Union international in the National Stadium, Cardiff.This arrangement for SSAA was requested by a singer in an English female vocal group. It was her Mother's favourite song. The lyrics have been translated to English although the original Welsh lyrics are shown on the last page. The melody is sung by Soprano 2.  Soprano 1 sings in harmony above the melody although joins the melody at the beginning of each verse.

It is in the original key of Eb major, so if you already know the song it is a very familiar sing-along in a familiar place for the voice.  The melody starts with Sopranos while Altos provide rhythmic accompaniment. As the song develops the melody splits into 3 and then 4 part harmony, with the tune taken by different parts here and there. Soprano 1s have a soaring descant over the tune towards the end. English.This setting of ‘Twas in the Moon of Wintertime was created for the Manitou Singers of St. Olaf College and their conductor, Dr. Therees Tkach Hibbard. I was asked to re-arrange my SATB setting of the same tune and text (published by earthsongs) but could not come up with a workable solution. Instead, I started over with a setting for accompanied treble choir and viola knowing the skill and musicianship of violist Dr. Charles Gray, Professor of Music (Viola, Violin, String Literature and Pedagogy). Three tunes are incorporated in this arrangement: Une Jeune Pucelle; Vom Himmel Hoch; and, Veni, Emmanuel. The first tune, Une Jeune Pucelle, is the ‘Twas in the Moon of Wintertime melody, and first appears in fragments within the opening viola solo. The second theme, Vom Himmel Hoch, is found in the viola part in measure 30, and implies the text, “From heaven above to earth I come To bear good news to every home; Glad tidings of great joy I bring, Whereof I now will say and sing...†which matches the unfolding drama of the ‘Twas in the Moon story. The third tune, Veni, Emmanuel, comes in response to the viola solo with the interjection: “Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel, shall come to you, O Israel.â€.
