Three Pieces for Chanukah is not so much a set of arrangements of familiar words and tunes than it is a set of original compositions based on them. The first two settings feature jazz-influenced, classical harmonic and melodic treatment of the tunes. The mood of the first setting is upbeat and the mood of the second one is more subdued. The mood of the third setting is extremely upbeat; it is composed in a straight funk style, albeit contrapuntal. The front matter to each edition features program notes, a pronunciation guide for the Hebrew words and the Hebrew and English texts.

This classic jazz standard My Funny Valentine pays tribute to the great tradition of vocal jazz soloists like Sarah Vaughan and Chet Baker by featuring up to five separate melodic solos throughout the piece, as well as a possible improvisation section of 16 measures to be split up among instrumental soloists (or vocalists if you prefer, but probably not desirable in most cases!).  Treble ensemble vocals mostly fill the role of background vocalists with the exception of a rubato a cappella bridge section after solos, but splits into four parts much of the time for a lush and rich sound from your singers.  Full-length demo, part tracks, minus tracks, and accompaniment tracks available at JenniferBarnesMusic.com.

Girls just want to have fun was Cyndi Lauper's break through single as a solo artist, reaching number one in ten countries including Australia, Canada and New Zealand. It is a feminist reimagining of the 1979 song by Robert Hazard. It received Grammy nominations for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Record of the Year.

This arrangement was written for a chorus of young women, and as such the ranges are relatively narrow.

Vocal ranges are:
Soprano 1: Eb4 - F#5 (Eb above middle C to F# above high C)
Soprano 2: Bb3 - E5 (Bb below middle C to E above high C)
Alto 1: B3 - B4 (B below middle C to B above middle C)
Alto 2: F3 - G4 (F below middle C to G above middle C)

For four bars in the penultimate chorus, there is one split in the parts, to allow for the girls they wanna, wanna have fun call back. In a quartet, this line could be omitted.

Inspired by her travels, Vignettes Overseas is a collection of poems published in Sara Teasdale's massively successful book of poems, Rivers to the Sea. Written during a time where women's voices were often silenced, and just one year after her marriage, Night Song at Amalfi vibrantly illustrates the stuggle to be a woman in a society that expected women to be submissive, and the stark reality that she and
many other women faced.

While women's rights have made great strides over the years, women and other minority groups still stuggle to have their voices heard. This song is for all of them.
This piece was commissioned by the New Canon Project, a partnership between the American Choral Directors Association, the American String Teachers Association, and Rising Tide Music Press, with support of the Sphinx Venture Fund. This piece is written for school-aged groups, but is accessible to choirs of all levels and challenges the choir with part independence and modal writing. This piece starts out very open and celestial, then turns dark as the reality of unending silence sets
in. There is hope, but also anger, confusion, and numbness.

The poem used in this setting was written by Quinn H. Whitlow of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, at age 7. Words and Music by Neil Sedaka in 1972. Arranged in 2022 by Boo de Bruin. 11 pages for Sweet Adelines (ladies' barbershop) chorus. (Tenor, lead, baritone, bass are roughly equivalent to SSAA, although lead and baritone have similar ranges, but perform different functions). That's when the music takes me is taken from Neil Sedaka's Solitaire LP. The song was notable as it was one of the only songs for which Sedaka wrote the lyrics in addition to the music. He often finishes his song using the song. (The ending of the arrangement is inspired by how he performs the song live, rather than the recording edit). It reached #18 on the UK singles chart, #27 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and #7 on the US Billboard Easy Listening chart. This arrangement was written for a barbershop chorus, and as such the lowest voice part has a lower range than is custom for choral SSAA writing. The melody sits with the lead for the vast majority of the song, but with the bass part taking a few of the lowest notes. Please note: in keeping with normal barbershop practice the men's barbershop voicing names are used (tenor, lead, baritone and bass) and an octave-shifted bass clef is used for the baritone and bass parts. Vocal ranges are: Tenor: D4 - G5 (D above middle C to G above high C) Lead: B3 - D5 (B below middle C to D above high C) Baritone: G3 - C5 (G below middle C to D above high C) Bass: D3 - D4 (D below middle C to D above middle C).
