Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 4 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.856151

By Perry Como. By Don McLean. Arranged by Liz Garnett. Contemporary. Octavo. 5 pages. Liz Garnett #3588251. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.856151).

Don McLean's heartfelt declaration of love has been covered by many artists over the years - it speaks so clearly and honestly of the human condition that its truths aren't restricted to any single style. Bringing it into the harmonic world of contest barbershop raises the emotional temperature of the ballad, and the implicit contrasts of passion and reflection in the original become much more explicit.

It is notated in the traditional clefs for women's barbershop: treble and bass alta (i.e. sung an octave higher than written)

Vocal Ranges:
Tenor: D4 - F#5

SKU: MQ.8807-E

Composed by Stephen Chatman. 6 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8807-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8807-E).

English.

The opening lines, “Listen, I love you. Do not turn your face / Nor touch me.â€, reflect the somber feelings encompassing Sara Teasdale’s poem. Paired voices initially express contrapuntal melodic lines enhanced by underlying harmony and slow syncopation in the piano accompaniment. The middle and final sections, imbued with sad words such as “let me ease my heart,†“with broken wing†and “Forget that I am speaking,†evolve beautifully within contrasting tonal regions, supported by undulating keyboard arpeggios. One of a set of six of Teasdale's love songs. Duration: 2:00.

By Alan Wagstaff. By Alan Wagstaff. Arranged by Alan Wagstaff. Celtic,Folk,Irish,Traditional. Octavo. 45 pages. Alan Wagstaff #639233. Published by Alan Wagstaff (A0.1040536).

'Do As You Will' is a folksy, Celtic feel choral song arranged for SSAA -with harp, flute, fiddle, and accordion accompaniment. Its shifting tonality adds complexity. The lyric is female point of view: Do As You Will Once I had a soldier lad who swore he’d love me truly. Ah! But now those days are gone! When the battle raged he turned his heel and followed duly. I gave him the salute and soldiered on. The wind’s about the barley and the mice are in the meal, so rise up bright and early all young lasses if you would do as you will. Then I loved a farmer’s son whose trinkets were his kisses. Ah! But now those days are gone! But on the road to market he had scores of narrow misses. I tossed him out for chaff and ploughed straight on. The wind’s about the barley and the mice are in the meal, so rise up bright and early all young lasses if you would do as you will. Next I had a blacksmith who was swarthy, dark, and handsome. Ah! But now those days are gone! He stole away my store of coin and ran off with the ransom. I hope he finds the fires! I’m forging on! The wind’s about the barley and the mice are in the meal, so rise up bright and early all young lasses if you would do as you will. Jack the Tinker courted me, and he was ever willing. Ah! But now those days are gone! Everywhere he plied his trade he fell to Jack and Jilling. I rattled his old pans and wandered on. The wind’s about the barley and the mice are in the meal, so rise up bright and early all young lasses if you would do as you will. There’s no faith in any man, not even my own brother. Ah! But would those days were gone! Girls, if you but would, or can, you’d best love one another and leave them all behind and carry on! The wind’s about the barley and the mice are in the meal, so rise up bright and early all young lasses if you would do as you will.

SKU: A0.856229

Composed by Judy Parker and Robert Gaudio. Arranged by Liz Garnett. Contemporary. Octavo. 6 pages. Liz Garnett #4792745. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.856229).

This was a late hit for the Four Seasons when it was first released in 1975, but has become arguably more famous since its inclusion as the closing number of the biographical musical Jersey Boys that tells the story of the band.

The arrangement uses the musical's high-chord finish (the original record's fade-out being unsuitable for live performance), but retains the instrumental break from the original with vocables.

N.B. This arrangement is notated in treble and bass alta (i.e. sung an octave higher than written) clefs.

Vocal Ranges:

Tenor: D4 - E5
Lead: A3 - B4
Bari: G#3 - C#5
Bass: D3 - F#4

SKU: A0.856219

Composed by Beth Chapman and Patrick Doyle. Arranged by Liz Garnett. Contemporary. Octavo. 3 pages. Liz Garnett #4346679. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.856219).

This song is from Chapman's 2005 album Look, and was featured on the soundtrack for the film Calendar Girls. It features a beautifully-shaped melody carrying a simple and sincere expression of love. The arrangement opens and closes with melody-and-accompaniment textures, with the harmony parts singing gentle bell-chords that evoke the backing of the original. As the message becomes more emphatic, all parts join in the words, and then all take on instrumental roles for the more urgent bridge passage.

N.B. This arrangement is notated in treble and bass alta (i.e. sung an octave higher than written) clefs.

Vocal Ranges:

Tenor: F#4 - E5
Lead: B3 - B4
Bari: B3 - B4
Bass: E3 - E4

SKU: A0.856142

Composed by Joe McCarthy, James Monaco. Arranged by Liz Garnett. A Cappella. Octavo. 4 pages. Liz Garnett #3023075. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.856142).

Written just before the First World War, this flirtatious song anticipates that world where women were finding a new independence and power, and trying to work out what to do with it. On the one hand, the singer doesn’t want to be unfeminine by making the first move, on the other, she’s going to make a bid for what she wants. Go girl, is what I say.

This arrangement is suitable for performance in a barbershop contest, and the Southern Comfort Barber Gals won a bronze medal in the Holland Harmony 2009 chorus contest with this it. It is notated in the traditional clefs for women's barbershop: treble and bass alta (i.e. sung an octave higher than written)

Ranges:
Tenor: F4 - E5
Lead: A flat 3 - C#5
Bari: B flat 3 - B4
Bass: E flat 3 - F#4

By Brian McKnight. By Brandon Barnes and Brian McKnight. Arranged by David Das. A Cappella,Pop,R & B,Soul,Wedding. 13 pages. Records Room Music #969824. Published by Records Room Music (A0.1385881).

A soulful four-part a cappella arrangement, available for either SSAA or TTBB a cappella group or ensemble, of Brian McKnight's beautiful love ballad from his 1995 album I Remember You. This arrangement features no divisi and is easily attainable for an intermediate high school level group. It's got some beautiful close harmonies, but the voice leading is easy and makes it very singable. Suitable for concert or wedding use. Groups will love digging into the R&B/soul flavor of this romantic classic.
