Choral Choir,Choral,SSAA Chorus - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1475304 Composed by Jocelyn Scofield. 21st Century,A Cappella,Singer/Songwriter. 33 pages. Bilsco Music #1052847. Published by Bilsco Music (A0.1475304). SCORES INCLUDED:Full Score & Parts Scores: Solo+Sopranos, Mezzos+Altos, CajonPERFORMANCE NOTES FROM THE COMPOSER:I AM is a singing meditation. It is both a piece that honors the individual and the whole. It is meant to affirm an individual's worth, as well as the whole collective. When a choir prepares for a performance, they rehearse a piece dozens if not hundreds of times. I wanted the experience of rehearsing I AM to be an ongoing declaration of the singer’s value. Therefore, every phrase in this piece is an affirmation. When a singer finds themselves singing the piece outside of rehearsal, they will be singing words that are positive and affirming. I cannot express how much joy that brings me as a composer.Musically, I AM is both complex, with its 7-part vocal split, contrasting rhythms, and varying accents, yet simple in its repetition, lyrics, and tonality. Each of the 7 parts sings a unique affirmation throughout the piece. They are simple statements like, I am enough and I am love, but can hold so much complexity depending on an individual's relationship with the statement. In the middle of the piece, there is an aleatoric section where each singer contributes their unique affirming statement. It creates a chaotic building of sound before coming together for the first and only time in the piece to sing I AM as a whole choir in block chords.  It is one of my favorite moments in the piece because simple and complex are just a beat apart.I AM was commissioned by the Grand Rapids Women's Chorus and premiered on May 10, 2024.  If you would like to hear more about the creation of the piece, you can hear the composer's original explantions on Youtube.

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.996562 Composed by Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby. Arranged by Rebecca J. Wood. Contemporary. Octavo. 5 pages. Rebecca J. Wood #5324809. Published by Rebecca J. Wood (A0.996562). Hear 30 second clip beginning at measure 1. Arrangement about 1 min 30 secs performance time.  I love this little child/mother song. If one keeps the title Angels, the surprise ending will be kept to the end. Lovely harmonies and emotions, with the climax at m 52 followed by the surprise ending.Milk this little song for all it's worth. My heart swells just for going through it in my head!! Feedback would be appreciated.   After thinking about ANGELS, I HAVE TO TELL YOU the most important line in the song. After the Daddy tells the child what angels are, he says, They call them angels in Heaven (beautiful spot in the son), but we call them MOTHERS down here. Such a tear-jerker, I think!!

Born in about 1343 in Norwich, England, Julian survived the Black Plague as a girl of six. She became an anchoress at St. Julian’s Church in Norwich where she lived in prayerful seclusion. In 1373, she became very sick at age 30. Near the point of death, a curate showed her a crucifix for comfort. She then experienced a series of intense visions of Christ and recovered from her illness to write eloquently about her “shewings.†The beautiful Medieval English text for this piece is from The Shewings of Julian of Norwich, Part I lines 148-154 in which Julian reflects on the vision she experienced about a hazelnut in the palm of her hand. She comes to understand that God loves even a small, ordinary thing like a hazelnut, such that it will not disintegrate but last forever because of God’s love for it. In Julian’s vision, the hazelnut symbolizes all that is made — all of Creation that God made and loves forever. The music combines Medieval sounds and counterpoint with lush, modern harmonies, woven together with the smooth color and elegant lines of the clarinet. Singers use Original Pronunciation to capture the lyricism of Julian’s words. May this piece inspire the same awe and amazement at God’s beloved Creation that Julian felt centuries ago.http://adrienneinglis.com.

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.996572 Composed by Jerome Kern. Arranged by Rebecca J. Wood. Contemporary. Octavo. 6 pages. Rebecca J. Wood #5835855. Published by Rebecca J. Wood (A0.996572). Beginning in a childlike, sing-song style to set up the make-believe theme, this arrangement is full of beautiful chords and my most-often signature, a modulation. Though I hear this as a quartet arrangement, I think it can be used as a Chorus arrangement.  I recommend that in the Intro, in the Bari part, where they have the repeated notes and the one note that goes up a third, keep the upper note at the same mental level as the repeated notes, so there's not a note note note note SKIP, rather note note note note skip. I know directors know that, but, I'm a control freak and love to develop the beauty of music. ALSO, at mm 11 and 19, I give the low note to the Basses, for smooth flow of voices. This is a fun piece and I hope you will try it.

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.894634 Composed by Ingrid Michaelson and Sara Bareilles. Arranged by Kevin Bruce Weed. A Cappella. Octavo. 9 pages. Kevin Bruce Weed #6610293. Published by Kevin Bruce Weed (A0.894634). Christmas, winter, peace.High school girls love this quiet, peaceful song. It is a song of simple, sincere friendship; wintry, without religion or silliness. This a capella arrangement for SSAA choir closely follows the original recording by Sara and Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson https://youtu.be/UkOKCWDJ4iA. But I put it in a key I think works better for SSAA.It includes divisi sections so you will want 8 voices at least. Here is a piano cover, in the original key.https://youtu.be/Zt-eFcvpMP0
