Treble-voice a cappella arrangement of A Thousand Kisses Deep by Leonard Cohen.  Gorgeous lines for all four parts, melody appears in different parts for the differnet verses, with subtle counterpoint in the accompanying parts.  Dynamics, phrasing and cutoffs all highlight the text.  This arrangement follows the form exactly, with a vocalise where the original had an instrumental section.  The syllable used is dng;  the primary sound is on the ng, a syllable often used for clarifying pitch in choral ensembles.  It creates a beautiful bell-like sound when used this way.  Extremely fun to sing.

This classic jazz standard My Funny Valentine pays tribute to the great tradition of vocal jazz soloists like Sarah Vaughan and Chet Baker by featuring up to five separate melodic solos throughout the piece, as well as a possible improvisation section of 16 measures to be split up among instrumental soloists (or vocalists if you prefer, but probably not desirable in most cases!).  Treble ensemble vocals mostly fill the role of background vocalists with the exception of a rubato a cappella bridge section after solos, but splits into four parts much of the time for a lush and rich sound from your singers.  Full-length demo, part tracks, minus tracks, and accompaniment tracks available at JenniferBarnesMusic.com.

One of the most beautiful opera chorus, Regina Coeli is a scene from Cavelleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni (1863-1945) set in a church service on Easter morning. Originally is written for 2 mixed chorus, soprano solo and orchestra (G-major key). This arrangement is for 4-part female ensemble/chorus (SSAA) and soprano solo, with piano or organ as accompanying instrument.  Some choral and instrumental parts are simplefied and reduced. This arrangement was commissioned for, and premiered by, Voices Co. Pop A Cappella Academy, for our Junior Squad Vocal Band. It is a sentimental and heart warming song, with lots of variety and opportunity for expression. The arrangement is also suitable for SSAT, and can be sung in a lower key if necessary. 

VOCAL LAYOUT:

The melody, or lead line, is divided amongst the vocal parts to give variety. The B.G (background) parts replicate the instrumental accompaniment of the original track, filling out the arrangement and creating the contemporary texture that is at the heart of Pop A Cappella. 

The dynamics give an indication which vocal parts should be strongest at any given moment, but changes may need to be made depending on the number / balance of singers, and the strengths of each vocal section. As a general rule, the melody or lead should be strongest, followed by any harmony parts (those with lyrics), followed by any background parts (Mmm's / Dmm's, etc).
