Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1023214

Composed by Nathaniel McEwen. Christian,Contemporary,Sacred. Octavo. 8 pages. McEwen Music #4993913. Published by McEwen Music (A0.1023214).

This piece is a solemn, modest, and fairly traditional setting for women's choir (SSAA) of the words uttered by Simeon in the Gospel of Luke upon his seeing the Christ-child.  The theme of death permeates the music and is especially apparent at the beginning of the work.  However, the promise of salvation through the Messiah transforms the music, and the choir ends the piece decisively in a major key, symbolizing the Savior's triumph over death and the forgiveness of sin.  The piece would work equally well in a liturgical setting and a concert hall.

By Pentatonix. By Johan Carlsson, Johan Jens Erik Carlsson, John Bellion, Jon Bellion, Jonathan David Bellion, Kevin Olusola, Kristin Maldonado, Mark Williams, Matt Sallee, Matthew Sallee, Mitchell Grassi, Raul Cubina, Ross Golan, Scott Hoying, Sean Meier, and Sean Myer. Arranged by Karen Wilson. 21st Century,A Cappella,Contemporary,Pop. Octavo. 10 pages. Karen Wilson #853033. Published by Karen Wilson (A0.1259757).

This is a fabulous song by Pentatonix which I have arranged for four-part (SSAA) a cappella voices, although sometimes the voice parts split.  It can be sung with or without the body percussion as I know it's sometimes difficult to do both at the same time!

Whilst in the original Pentatonix song, Scott Hoying has most of the solos, I have arranged this so that all voices get the chance to sing the main melody.  The bass part is not the most interesting(!) as the whole song is built over a repeating two-bar phrase (four chords).  However, in this arrangement, I have managed to give them the main melody at bar 30 and at bar 61 they are the only voice-part to sing Mitch's parting tune - it's the basses' time to shine!

I have two versions of this song available.  The other version (Product Number 1355563) is easier to sing.  If you want a challenge, this is the version you should try!  It's as close as I could get to the original.
