Born in about 1343 in Norwich, England, Julian survived the Black Plague as a girl of six. She became an anchoress at St. Julian’s Church in Norwich where she lived in prayerful seclusion. In 1373, she became very sick at age 30. Near the point of death, a curate showed her a crucifix for comfort. She then experienced a series of intense visions of Christ and recovered from her illness to write eloquently about her “shewings.†The beautiful Medieval English text for this piece is from The Shewings of Julian of Norwich, Part I lines 148-154 in which Julian reflects on the vision she experienced about a hazelnut in the palm of her hand. She comes to understand that God loves even a small, ordinary thing like a hazelnut, such that it will not disintegrate but last forever because of God’s love for it. In Julian’s vision, the hazelnut symbolizes all that is made — all of Creation that God made and loves forever. The music combines Medieval sounds and counterpoint with lush, modern harmonies, woven together with the smooth color and elegant lines of the clarinet. Singers use Original Pronunciation to capture the lyricism of Julian’s words. May this piece inspire the same awe and amazement at God’s beloved Creation that Julian felt centuries ago.http://adrienneinglis.com.

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.856166 By Miley Cyrus. By Robert Hazard. Arranged by Liz Garnett. Pop. Octavo. 5 pages. Liz Garnett #3868607. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.856166). This song was originally written and recorded in 1979 by Robert Hazard, who presented it from a male point of view, but it was made famous by Cyndi Lauper in 1983/4. Lauper tweaked the lyrics to turn it into a celebration of both female pleasure and female autonomy, and in doing so overturned the stereotypes of feminism of the era - becoming the voice of girl power for the generation before the Spice Girls.Lauper has reworked the song into two subsequent versions, but this arrangement is based firmly on the 1980s version. It was written for a series of one-day workshops, and so was designed to combine musical interest for people spending a whole day singing it with ease of learning to allow participants to focus on performance elements beyond the notes. The arrangement is notated in the traditional clefs for women's barbershop: treble and bass alta (i.e. sung an octave higher than written).Vocal Ranges:Tenor: E4 – E5Lead: A3 – C#4Bari: A3- B4Bass: E3 – E4www.HelpingYouHarmonise.com

Choral Choir,Choral (SSAA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.941930 By Styx. By Dennis Deyoung. Arranged by Cris Conerty. A Cappella,Barbershop,Contemporary,Pop,Rock. 6 pages. Cris Conerty #5728763. Published by Cris Conerty (A0.941930). This arrangement stays true to STYX's iconic anthem about maintaining faith and hope amidst adversity and inhumanity - still relevant today. 4 min. in length, but easy to learn with repeating musical phrases. Imagine your bass section belting out their feature at the bridge: And if I see a light, will I believe? Tell me, how will I know?! The counterpoint between parts during the repeated chorus sections are fun and breaths have been built in so no one needs to run out of air!  Tenors will love their melody moments and the baritone voice leading brings ease and flow to their part. This song could be the focal point fo your next show!

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1040536 By Alan Wagstaff. By Alan Wagstaff. Arranged by Alan Wagstaff. Celtic,Folk,Irish,Traditional. Octavo. 45 pages. Alan Wagstaff #639233. Published by Alan Wagstaff (A0.1040536). 'Do As You Will' is a folksy, Celtic feel choral song arranged for SSAA -with harp, flute, fiddle, and accordion accompaniment. Its shifting tonality adds complexity. The lyric is female point of view: Do As You Will Once I had a soldier lad who swore he’d love me truly. Ah! But now those days are gone! When the battle raged he turned his heel and followed duly. I gave him the salute and soldiered on. The wind’s about the barley and the mice are in the meal, so rise up bright and early all young lasses if you would do as you will. Then I loved a farmer’s son whose trinkets were his kisses. Ah! But now those days are gone! But on the road to market he had scores of narrow misses. I tossed him out for chaff and ploughed straight on. The wind’s about the barley and the mice are in the meal, so rise up bright and early all young lasses if you would do as you will. Next I had a blacksmith who was swarthy, dark, and handsome. Ah! But now those days are gone! He stole away my store of coin and ran off with the ransom. I hope he finds the fires! I’m forging on! The wind’s about the barley and the mice are in the meal, so rise up bright and early all young lasses if you would do as you will. Jack the Tinker courted me, and he was ever willing. Ah! But now those days are gone! Everywhere he plied his trade he fell to Jack and Jilling. I rattled his old pans and wandered on. The wind’s about the barley and the mice are in the meal, so rise up bright and early all young lasses if you would do as you will. There’s no faith in any man, not even my own brother. Ah! But would those days were gone! Girls, if you but would, or can, you’d best love one another and leave them all behind and carry on! The wind’s about the barley and the mice are in the meal, so rise up bright and early all young lasses if you would do as you will.

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1122297 By Chet Baker. By Jerome Kern and Buddy da Sylva. Arranged by Liz Garnett. A Cappella,Barbershop,Standards. Octavo. 5 pages. Liz Garnett #723455. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.1122297). The first chorus of Jerome Kern's classic is conceived to be delivered in a free-flowing, conversational ballad style. It’s chord choices cast the song in a yearny, poignant light; sung from the point of view of someone who is currently finding things hard. Looking for the silver lining as courageous moral effort rather than an act of easy optimism. It then moves into tempo to the place of joy that the lyric promises as its goal. Syncopation and interchange between the parts bring musical sparkle to express lightness of spirits. The tag returns to the original tempo and feel, revealing the joy to be a vision rather than reality, but one which provides hope: we’ll find it some day. This version of the arrangement was designed to be suitable for barbershop contest. It is notated in in treble and bass alta (i.e. sung an octave higher than written) clefs. Vocal Ranges: Tenor: F4 - F#5 Lead: A3 - D5 Bari: B3 - D5 Bass: D3 - f4.

Choral Choir,Choral (SSAA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1290533 Composed by Amelia Wellers. Arranged by Amelia Wellers. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary,Folk,New Age. 4 pages. Awelia Music #881249. Published by Awelia Music (A0.1290533). From the arranger: I first came across this traditional English folk ballad on the podcast mini-series “Dolly Parton’s Americaâ€. Dolly’s version was fast-based and up-beat, but the melody struck me as distant yet clear, mournful yet timeless. When I could not find a version that let the voice further explore these qualities, I made my own. The first exists on my record (WALLFLOWER by Aerhart), the second as a live solo act accompanied by a Yamaha Reface CS Synth, and the third as a Silver Dagger choral arrangement, made with and for the Young New Yorker's Chorus Treble Ensemble. The original Silver Dagger tune is a haunting memory in its spirit as much as its history (its many possible origins trace back to the early 1800s). To this day, we wonder whether it’s love, fear or both that sway our overprotected heroine’s decision to “sleep alone all of my life.†Despite her careful consideration, the melody never grants the finality of her decision. This arrangement holds this dissonance within a meditative space - a small moment of stillness in which to let all the big thoughts and emotions come and go. We begin with the memory of the melody, gather momentum and clarity in its pulsing visceral storytelling, then release it, unresolved yet somehow changed.
