Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 4 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.856235

By Matt Monro. By David Geoffrey Matthews, David Matthews, and Tim Harris. Arranged by Liz Garnett. Contemporary. Octavo. 9 pages. Liz Garnett #4885999. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.856235).

This song from 1970 is a kindly, though rather tongue-in-cheek, view of the emergent wave of feminism, and in its story-telling paints a picture of a moment in history in the incidental details of milk deliveries office work as much as in the main incidents of its narrative. The chorus transcends this moment in its cheerfully uplifting appeal to a brighter, more optimistic future.

The arrangement was commissioned to celebrate a moment in the life of a women's chorus, and is crafted to make sure all singers get to participate in relaying the narrative.

N.B. This arrangement is notated in treble and bass alta (i.e. sung an octave higher than written) clefs.

Vocal Ranges:

Tenor: E flat 4 - E5

Lead: A3 - C#5

Baritone: A3 - B4

Bass: D3 - G#4

By Chet Baker. By Jerome Kern and Buddy da Sylva. Arranged by Liz Garnett. A Cappella,Barbershop,Standards. Octavo. 5 pages. Liz Garnett #723455. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.1122297).

The first chorus of Jerome Kern's classic is conceived to be delivered in a free-flowing, conversational ballad style. Itā€™s chord choices cast the song in a yearny, poignant light; sung from the point of view of someone who is currently finding things hard. Looking for the silver lining as courageous moral effort rather than an act of easy optimism. It then moves into tempo to the place of joy that the lyric promises as its goal. Syncopation and interchange between the parts bring musical sparkle to express lightness of spirits. The tag returns to the original tempo and feel, revealing the joy to be a vision rather than reality, but one which provides hope: weā€™ll find it some day. This version of the arrangement was designed to be suitable for barbershop contest. It is notated in in treble and bass alta (i.e. sung an octave higher than written) clefs. Vocal Ranges: Tenor: F4 - F#5 Lead: A3 - D5 Bari: B3 - D5 Bass: D3 - f4.

By Meat Loaf. By Jim Steinman. Arranged by Michael Thomas Coull. 20th Century,Contemporary,Pop,Rock,Standards. 18 pages. MTC Publishing #859757. Published by MTC Publishing (A0.1267123).

You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth - Choral Arrangement for SSAA and Piano by Michael Thomas Coull.

You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (also known as You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)) is the first solo single by the American singer Meat Loaf, released in 1977. Ā It is a track from his album Bat Out of Hell, written by Jim Steinman.Ā

According to his autobiography, Meat Loaf asked Jim Steinman to write a song that was not 15 or 20 minutes long, and, in Meat Loafā€™s words, a ā€˜pop songā€™. Ā His autobiography also dates the writing of the song to 1975, the song reportedly being a key factor in Meat Loaf and Steinman deciding to do an album together.Ā

The song was the first single released from the album, with an edit of For Crying Out Loud as the B-side. Ā The record peaked at No. 73 in the Record World singles chart, and didn't appear at all in Billboard Hot 100. Ā Billboard reviewed the single, finding the guitar introduction to be energetic, the beat to be ā€˜catchyā€™ and the vocal performance to be somewhat similar to Bruce Springsteen.Ā  Billboard also commented on how occasional pauses in the instruments allow the ā€˜infectiousā€™ vocals to be highlighted.Ā Ā

Following the success of the next two singles, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad and Paradise by the Dashboard Light, the song was re-released in October 1978 with Paradise as the B-side. Ā This issue peaked at No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, over a year after the first release of the song.

This exciting and energetic choral arrangement is voiced for SSAA women's choir with piano accompaniment, and will lend a touch of contemporary pop/rock to your next concert.

Also available for SATB.

By Alan Wagstaff. By Alan Wagstaff. Arranged by Alan Wagstaff. Celtic,Folk,Irish,Traditional. Octavo. 45 pages. Alan Wagstaff #639233. Published by Alan Wagstaff (A0.1040536).

'Do As You Will' is a folksy, Celtic feel choral song arranged for SSAA -with harp, flute, fiddle, and accordion accompaniment. Its shifting tonality adds complexity. The lyric is female point of view: Do As You Will Once I had a soldier lad who swore heā€™d love me truly. Ah! But now those days are gone! When the battle raged he turned his heel and followed duly. I gave him the salute and soldiered on. The windā€™s about the barley and the mice are in the meal, so rise up bright and early all young lasses if you would do as you will. Then I loved a farmerā€™s son whose trinkets were his kisses. Ah! But now those days are gone! But on the road to market he had scores of narrow misses. I tossed him out for chaff and ploughed straight on. The windā€™s about the barley and the mice are in the meal, so rise up bright and early all young lasses if you would do as you will. Next I had a blacksmith who was swarthy, dark, and handsome. Ah! But now those days are gone! He stole away my store of coin and ran off with the ransom. I hope he finds the fires! Iā€™m forging on! The windā€™s about the barley and the mice are in the meal, so rise up bright and early all young lasses if you would do as you will. Jack the Tinker courted me, and he was ever willing. Ah! But now those days are gone! Everywhere he plied his trade he fell to Jack and Jilling. I rattled his old pans and wandered on. The windā€™s about the barley and the mice are in the meal, so rise up bright and early all young lasses if you would do as you will. Thereā€™s no faith in any man, not even my own brother. Ah! But would those days were gone! Girls, if you but would, or can, youā€™d best love one another and leave them all behind and carry on! The windā€™s about the barley and the mice are in the meal, so rise up bright and early all young lasses if you would do as you will.

Composed by Donna Summer and Michael Omartian. Arranged by Kathleen McGuire. Disco,Pop. Octavo. 11 pages. Kathleen McGuire #768805. Published by Kathleen McGuire (A0.1168471).

***40th ANNIVERSARY***

A Donna Summer hit from post-disco / new wave era (1983), She Works Hard for the MoneyĀ is more than a fun pop piece. The song tells a story of a hard-working blue-collar woman, based on inspiration Summer found after the 25th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony (23 Feb 1983) when she attended an after-party. She encountered a restroom attendant named Onetta Johnson (whose name is mentioned in the song) whom she found sound asleep - despite a blaring TV - exhausted from working long hours.

Summer related the story in an interview: I looked at her and my heart just filled up with compassion for this lady, and I thought to myself: God, she works hard for the money, cooped up in this stinky little room all night. Then I thought about it, and I said, She works hard for the money... She works hard for the money...This is it! This is it! I know this is it!Ā

The arrangement opens with an a cappella introduction in full harmony. The melody moves between the altos and sopranos, with each part otherwise providing rhythmic support (echoing the instrumental accompaniment). The sopranos divide into 3 parts occasionally, allowing some high voices (A-flat) to shine. There are no solos in this arrangement -- your women all have opportunity to sing this powerful, true story that serves more broadly as an allegory for women's rights and socioeconomic hardship. The arrangement is a show-stopper, bound to get audiences clapping and even up out of their seats!Ā

Set of band parts & full conductor's score available separately: Trumpet, Tenor Sax, Synth, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drum Set.

By The Beatles. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Liz Garnett. Rock. Octavo. 7 pages. Liz Garnett #6096635. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.856251).

This classic Beatles song is extraordinary in so many ways. With simple, direct story-telling it gives a vivid snapshot of lived experience in a time of social change, clothed in Debussian harmonies on string quartet and harp. The layering of different narrative points of view in the choruses is incredibly clever - combining musical simultaneity with lyrical intelligibility. Watch and learn.

The arrangement aims to stay out of the way of the song - to let the story through, whilst alluding to the subtleties of the original without letting the details distract.

N.B. This arrangement is notated in treble and bass alta (i.e. sung an octave higher than written) clefs.

Composed by Stephen Schwartz. Arranged by Larry Wright. A Cappella,Barbershop. 11 pages. Larry Wright #1029671. Published by Larry Wright (A0.1449941).

A great song from Stephen Schwartz's Broadway Musical Wicked; a 4-part, a cappella, uptempo and spirited tune with a clever lyric! Quartets and choruses singing at a SAI B- contest level should be able to successfully learn and perform this arrangement.
