Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1111174 By Neil Sedaka. By Neil Sedaka. Arranged by Rebecca (Boo) de Bruin. A Cappella,Barbershop,Contemporary,Pop. Octavo. 11 pages. Rebecca de Bruin #713452. Published by Rebecca de Bruin (A0.1111174). Words and Music by Neil Sedaka in 1972. Arranged in 2022 by Boo de Bruin. 11 pages for Sweet Adelines (ladies' barbershop) chorus. (Tenor, lead, baritone, bass are roughly equivalent to SSAA, although lead and baritone have similar ranges, but perform different functions). That's when the music takes me is taken from Neil Sedaka's Solitaire LP. The song was notable as it was one of the only songs for which Sedaka wrote the lyrics in addition to the music. He often finishes his song using the song. (The ending of the arrangement is inspired by how he performs the song live, rather than the recording edit). It reached #18 on the UK singles chart, #27 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and #7 on the US Billboard Easy Listening chart. This arrangement was written for a barbershop chorus, and as such the lowest voice part has a lower range than is custom for choral SSAA writing. The melody sits with the lead for the vast majority of the song, but with the bass part taking a few of the lowest notes. Please note: in keeping with normal barbershop practice the men's barbershop voicing names are used (tenor, lead, baritone and bass) and an octave-shifted bass clef is used for the baritone and bass parts. Vocal ranges are: Tenor: D4 - G5 (D above middle C to G above high C) Lead: B3 - D5 (B below middle C to D above high C) Baritone: G3 - C5 (G below middle C to D above high C) Bass: D3 - D4 (D below middle C to D above middle C).

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1087101 By Erasure. By Andy Bell and Vince Clarke. Arranged by Rebecca (Boo) de Bruin. A Cappella,Contemporary,Pop. Octavo. 13 pages. Rebecca de Bruin #691297. Published by Rebecca de Bruin (A0.1087101). Words and Music by Vince Clarke and Andy Bell in 1988. Arranged in 2021 by Boo de Bruin. 13 pages for Sweet Adelines (ladies' barbershop) chorus. (Tenor, lead, baritone, bass are roughly equivalent to SSAA, although lead and baritone have similar - in this case, identical! - ranges, but perform different functions). A Little Respect was written and recorded by English synth-pop duo Erasure, and is known as one of their signature songs. It reached #4 on the UK singles chart, #14 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and #2 on the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart. This arrangement uses words from the song in place of neutral vowels to create an early ostinato (without boring the harmony parts!) before expanding into homorhythm in verse 2. The melody is mainly in the lead part, with the final motif from the chorus passed to the tenors. In the final verse, a key change moves the melody to the basses and baritones, with the leads taking the final phrase. This arrangement was written for a barbershop chorus, and as such the lowest voice part has a lower range than is custom for choral SSAA writing. However, the range of the entire arrangement is quite narrow, and so it could be sung in a higher tessitura without undo strain on the upper voices. Please note: in keeping with normal barbershop practice the men's barbershop voicing names are used (tenor, lead, baritone and bass) and an octave-shifted bass clef is used for the baritone and bass parts. Vocal ranges are: Tenor: D4 - F5 (D above middle C to F above high C) Lead: G3 - C5 (G below middle C to high C) Baritone: G3 - C5 (G below middle C to high C) Bass: D3 - F4 (D below middle C to F above middle C).

Choral Choir,Choral,SSAA Chorus - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1471999 By Kirsty MacColl. By Ray Davies. Arranged by Kirstie Smith. 20th Century,Contest,Festival,Folk,Historic,Pop. 5 pages. Kirstie Smith #1049694. Published by Kirstie Smith (A0.1471999). An enjoyable SSAA and guitar chord arrangement of 'Days', perfectly tailored for Ladies’ Choirs and highly suitable for mixed voice choral groups. Written by Ray Davies and released by The Kinks in 1968, this choral arrangement has been lovingly crafted to capture the essence of Kirsty MacColl's 1989 cover version, making great use of rich alto voices to harmonise and on occasion even sing the melody!‘Days’ is an absolute classic to delight audiences and singers alike, and may be performed with instrumental ensemble or with the accompanying backing track audio. In 1994, Kirsty MacColl told James Bennett, I think my version is a bit slower [than the Kinks' original], I wanted to give it the ABBA treatment. I wanted people to think that it's a Kirsty MacColl song when they hear it. Related Items;SSAA Choral Score with guitar chords ID 1574445 Instrumental Accompaniment Audio (Band) MP3 – ID 1574524 Full Audio Performance MP3 ID 1574447Bass Part PDF – ID 1574457

Choral Choir,Choral (SSAA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1311363 By Etta James. By Harry Warren and Mack Gordon. Arranged by Roy Rashbrook. 20th Century,A Cappella,Barbershop,Blues,Jazz. 4 pages. Silverbright Music #900367. Published by Silverbright Music (A0.1311363). At Last is a song written by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren for the musical film Sun Valley Serenade (1941). Glenn Miller and his orchestra recorded the tune several times, with a 1942 version reaching number two on the US Billboard pop music chart. In 1960, rhythm and blues singer Etta James recorded an arrangement by Riley Hampton that improvised on Warren's original melody. Etta James' rendition became the title track on her debut album At Last! (1960) and was eventually inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.This arrangement was commissioned by a ladies' choir for SSAA but is also available as an SATB arrangement (with one bass split at the very end). Although quite chromatic, with a key change before the final verse, this arrangement has been performed by amateur choirs.

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1220874 Composed by Clare Teal and Nigel John Stonier. Arranged by Jenny Mills. A Cappella,Barbershop,Contemporary,Jazz. Octavo. 11 pages. LABBS - Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers #817216. Published by LABBS - Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers (A0.1220874). A super-jazzy arrangement of this uptempo swing song as sung by Clare Teal, this is one that is fiendishly challenging, but worthy of an attempt by established SSAA a cappella groups who are experienced and confident with the swing genre. The arranger, the late Jen Mills, was an accomplished jazz musician as well as a barbershop singer and LABBS Music Judge. This arrangement has been donated by her partner for publication by LABBS on SMP so that SSAA a cappella groups can experience the joy of this arrangement. This arrangement is NOT suitable for barbershop contest, as the harmony parts are frequently performing non-homorhythmically with neutral syllables, to give a huge hit of big band flavour. The arrangement is predominantly in the barbershop style (melody in the inner voice) but at times the melody gets passed around the other parts too, so everyone gets a turn! With an extended vocal instrumental intro, it would be suitable for a show where a spoken intro overlays the first 30 seconds or so (once the speech is planned, some bars can be repeated as many times as needed to accommodate). For those unfamiliar with the song, look up Clare Teal's performance on YouTube from her album Don't Talk. A sound sample of this arrangement will follow soon.

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1220892 Composed by Alan Bergman, Marilyn Bergman, and Michel Legrand. Arranged by Jenny Mills. 20th Century,A Cappella,Barbershop,Jazz,Standards. Octavo. 4 pages. LABBS - Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers #817229. Published by LABBS - Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers (A0.1220892). This arrangement of this beautiful jazz ballad was commissioned from the late Jenny Mills by a LABBS barbershop chorus, inspired specifically by the recording by Clare Teal.Previously licensed for that chorus only, Jen's partner has now donated this arrangement to LABBS for publication on SMP, so that more SSAA a cappella groups can experience singing this beautiful ballad arranged in super-close harmony, with a beautiful romantic message suitable for shows, weddings, engagements and any time. This arrangement is NOT suitable for barbershop contests, due to many of the chords used having gorgeously evocative semitone intervals within them, which is considered too dissonant for the style.  They are nevertheless extremely appropriate and laden with emotion for a show performance, by a group who can handle the tuning of these unusual (to barbershop) chords. To hear the version by Clare Teal that inspired this arrangement, search on YouTube for her recording from her album Don't Talk. A sample recording of the arrangement being sung by the commissioning chorus will follow soon.
