SKU: A0.1451983

Composed by Todd Marchand. Christian,Sacred. 5 pages. Con Spirito Music #1031300. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1451983).

Written by Henry Williams Baker (1821-1877) and titled “The Lord Shall Give His People the Blessing of Peace,” the text of “O God of Love, Give Peace Again” was published in the 1861 edition of the landmark English hymnal, Hymns Ancient and Modern. Baker, who is perhaps best remembered for his hymn “The King of Love My Shepherd Is,” was chairman of the committee that prepared that hymnal.

Because war is a constant in the world, Baker's text is always relevant. Stanza 1 is an entreaty that God would “make wars throughout the world to cease.” Stanza 2 asks that God recall his “works of old,” for only by God's hand can peace be given again. Stanza 3 extends this thought by asking “Whom shall we trust but thee, O Lord? Where rest but on thy faithful word?” and noting that “none ever called on Thee in vain.” A fourth verse, omitted in some hymnals, ends on the hopeful note that as saints and angels are bound “in holy love,” so we might also be bound to them and to one another in love and peace.

In this original setting of Baker’s text, stanza 1 is sung by unison voices, stanza 2 by unison women, stanza 3 by unison men, and stanza 4 in parts following a recapitulation of the introduction and a modulation to the relative major key.

By Kim Kirkman. By John Henry Hopkins Jnr. Arranged by Kim Kirkman. Christmas,Comedy. 6 pages. Kim Kirkman #1088836. Published by Kim Kirkman (A0.1514358).

We Three Kings re-written to commiserated with those epic walkers of old. Those of fantastic feet. Those with super sandals.
Arranged for three voices and piano.

Lyrics:
Tutti: We three kings of Orient are;
bearing gifts we traverse afar,
sandals flopping, without stopping
following yonder star.

Refrain:
O star of wonder, star of light,
star with royal beauty bright,
westward leading, still proceeding,
How far to this Nazarite?

King I: Born a King on Bethlehem's plain,
gold I bring to crown him again,
Walking ever, ceasing never,
Wowzers my leg’s in pain.

Tutti: O star of wonder, star of light,
star with royal beauty bright,
westward leading, still proceeding,
Trav’lling on both day and night.

King II: Frankincense to offer have I;
incense owns a Deity nigh;
Real trail-blazing, it’s hair-raising,
Trudging along, I sigh.

Tutti: O star of wonder, star of light,
star with royal beauty bright,
westward leading, still proceeding,
Breaks are a true delight.

 King III: Myrrh is mine; its bitter perfume
breathes a life of gathering gloom;
blisters bleeding, not conceding,
Where is the next bathroom?

Tutti: O star of wonder, star of light,
star with royal beauty bright,
westward leading, still proceeding,
Dunes are a gruesome sight.

 Tutti: Glorious now, at last we’ve arrived,
From our comforts we’ve been deprived:
Presents given, wish we’d been driven
Don’t think my knees survived.

 Tutti: O star of wonder, star of light,
star with royal beauty bright,
West we followed, pain we swallowed,
Back we sorely trudge tonight.

 Comments as leave stage: What, all the way back again? Home again, jigged-jog. We just came all this way West and now we have to go back east?

Composed by Camilla Pruitt and Tom Shelton. General, All Saints. With Violin and Cello. Sacred Anthem. Octavo. 16 pages. Chorister's Guild - Digital #CGA1671. Published by Chorister's Guild - Digital (C7.CGA1671).

This ethereal piece for mixed voices incorporates the words of poet Henry Vaughan: They are all gone into the world of light, their memory is fair and bright. A fitting selection for All Saint's Day, inviting us to reflect on loved ones who have joined the saints in light. Open harmonics in the voices and accompaniment paint a picture of what lies beyond this world, and the optional string parts for violin and cello create a beautiful soundscape on which the melody floats. A striking and memorable piece for youth and adult choirs.

By Andy Williams. By Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer. Arranged by Julia Daintree. 20th Century,Broadway,Contemporary,Film/TV,Musical/Show. 2 pages. Julia Daintree #1074549. Published by Julia Daintree (A0.1498235).

Flexible 3-part arrangement SAT, SAB, SSA
Suitable for community, childrens or youth choirs.
This looks trickier than it is - our choirs managed the three parts pretty well and they loved the sound. We mixed up solo, unison and 3-part verses to make it longer. The solo made people cry most week :)
A firm favourite, mixing beautiful harmonies and simple nostalgia. Interestingly the youngsters seemed to know this song, too.
Tried, tested and much-loved.
Enjoy!

Composed by Henry Purcell. Arranged by Sandy McIntire. 19th Century,Christian,Early Music,Religious,Traditional. 14 pages. Sandy McIntire #883264. Published by Sandy McIntire (A0.1292701).

Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation was originally an unaccompanied plainsong melody, translated in 1851 by John Mason Neale from the second part of the Latin monastic hymn Urbs beata Jerusalem. It is now commonly sung to the tune of Westminster Abbey by Purcell and currently growing in popularity. A favorite of the British royal family, it has been performed at their marriage ceremonies and Elizabeth II's platinum jubilee and funeral service. This is an SAB (soprano, alto, baritone) Intermediate Choir arrangement with a piano accompaniment. A separate sheet is provided for the voices. A piano arrangement of this hymn is also available at this web site.

Composed by GREATOREX, Henry W. Greatorex. Arranged by Fritz Stanley. A Cappella,Christian,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 6 pages. MicStanley #6706173. Published by MicStanley (A0.748634).

Gloria Patri (Glory Be to the Father) is composed by Henry W. Greatorex in GREATOREX tune. Arranged by Fritz Stanley for three-part chorus of female voices (SSA) in a cappella. This Gloria Patri text is usually known as the Lesser Doxology (what is known as the Greater Doxology begins Gloria in excelsis Deo; see 247). It is a liturgical text common to most Christian traditions and is often appended to the singing of Old Testament psalms or New Testament canticles. The traditional version of this text is found here, while a more modern translation occurs at 636. The initial part of the Gloria Patri may be traced back to the Trinitarian baptismal formula recordedin Matthew 28: 19; it was probably used by early Christians as an acclamation. The second part, which begins as it was in the beginning, was added in the fourth century as a response to the Arian heresy. Thus the text reflects the orthodox insistence on the consubstantiality of the Son with the Father and the eternal unity and equality of the three persons in the Trinity. Liturgical Use: Traditionally used at the end of Old Testament psalms and New Testament canticles and at the conclusion of certain prayers or creedal statements; a general doxology.
