SKU: A0.1502150

By Josh Groban. By (p/k/a Raymond Vincy), Henri A.l. Martinet, and Raymond H. Ovanessian. Arranged by Sandra Milliken. 20th Century,Children,Christmas,Holiday. 12 pages. Sandra Milliken #1078047. Published by Sandra Milliken (A0.1502150).

Petit Papa Noël (Little Father Christmas) is a popular French Christmas song. It first appeared just after the end of the Second World War when it was recorded by Tino Rossi. It has since become incredibly popular, well-known today by most French children.

But the success of the song does not stop at the borders of France. It has been translated into many languages and exported to many countries. Even in English-speaking countries, it is often performed in the original French.  Several well-known artists have recorded covers of Petit Papa Noël, including Nana Mouskouri, Céline Dion, Josh Groban and Roberto Alagna.

This arrangement includes lyrics in both French and English, with a guide to the French pronunciation provided in standard IPA (Internation Phonetic Alphabet) format. It is also available in SSA and SATB voicings, with a piano accompaniment.

By The Beatles. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Alexandra L. Uitdenbogerd. A Cappella,Multicultural,New Age,Pop,Singer/Songwriter,World. Octavo. 5 pages. Alexandra L. Uitdenbogerd #733473. Published by Alexandra L. Uitdenbogerd (A0.1133340).

SAA arrangement of Across the Universe by the Beatles with melody shared by the upper two parts until the third verse, when the lowest part takes the melody with homophonic harmonies above it. Ranges Soprano: Middle C (C4) to D5 Alto 1: G3 to C5 Alto 2: G3 to A4 Program Notes Across the Universe was a song written by John Lennon and performed by the Beatles. Lennon turned a negative reaction to Cynthia Lennon’s chatter into an inspired, positive, transcendental meditation-influenced song. It was first released on a charity album and included female backing vocals and a children’s choir. A pared back version was then released on the Beatles Let It Be album. I was inspired by but too late for the Space and Time themed RMIT Music concert, which happened to be on John Lennon’s birthday, and arranged the song for SAA voices, with the melody in an alto-friendly key, matching the CORP attendees at the time. The melody is faithful to the original recording, adds an accompanying “wah-wah†in the second verse, suggestive of the trippy guitar effect, and reinstates the female backing vocals in the third verse.

SKU: A0.774719

Composed by Alfonso Maria de' Liguori. Arranged by Sandra Milliken. Christian,Christmas,Classical,Sacred. Octavo. 12 pages. Sandra Milliken #3676503. Published by Sandra Milliken (A0.774719).

Tu scendi dalla stelle is amongst the oldest of Christmas songs in Italy. The original version was written in the mid-1700s in Naples by the Catholic Bishop of Sant'Agata dei Goti, Alfonso Maria de’ Liguori. At that time it was called Quanno nascette Ninno and was written in the Neapolitan dialect in the style of a pastorale.

The song was later re-written in Italian by Pope Pius IX and thereafter it became famous as a Christmas carol all over the world.

Originally containing seven verses, today’s performances of the carol in Italy generally include only the first two verses. Notable recordings and performances of the carol include those by Sergio Franchi, Andrea Bocelli and Luciano Pavarotti.

This arrangement features both Italian and English lyrics, with the English version being a very close adaptation of the original Italian. The carol may therefore be sung in either Italian or English, or a combination of both.

Available in 2 Part and SSA, both with piano and optional descant/flute.

Also available separately is an instrumental accompaniment for the SSA version, scored for String quintet and glockenspiel, with conductor's score. (S0.937945)

SKU: A0.1131904

Composed by Michael Perry. Arranged by Sandra Milliken. A Cappella,Christian,Christmas,Contemporary,Holiday. Octavo. 6 pages. Sandra Milliken #732138. Published by Sandra Milliken (A0.1131904).

Sometimes mistakenly believed to be a traditional Christmas carol from the West Indies, the words and music for Calypso Carol were written in 1964 by one of the United Kingdom’s leading contemporary hymn writers, Michael Perry. At that time Perry was a student at Oak Hill Theological College and he wrote the song for a college carols concert. It became famous virtually by accident when Cliff Richard, who was hastily assembling a selection for radio, included the song in his program to replace a missing recording. It was subsequently included in the 1969 songbook Youth Praise 2. Calypso Carol steadily gained popularity and, in 2005, was voted one of the top ten choices in the BBC Songs of Praise poll of favourite carols for that year.
