The main score showing the piano accompaniment the set also includes a separate organ score with pedal system and slightly different, more organ-like figurations. Dumbarton's Drums speaks to the love of a woman, which is probably returned by the man, but we're never entirely sure (unless I'm being cynical).  The melody is lovely and soft.  While this arrangement maintains the simplicity of the melody, it explores several moods in odd key changes.  Most of the keys change logically, although they may need more rehearsal than the different verses.  This was performed very successful by a community chorus in which two women regularly sang tenor, so the depth of the sound was never compromised.

Also available is a nice instrumental performance/accompaniment digital recording of the song by a string trio (violin, viola and violoncello), accompanied by piano, drums and bass (rhythm trio). The violin, viola and violoncello duplicate the soprano, alto and baritone voices, respectively, of the SAB choral version of the song. Performed along with the rhythm trio, it aids the vocalists in hearing the melody vs. the counter melody at work. The duplications are not obvious, due to the complex back and forth exchanges of melody vs. counter melody, except when the effect is desired with the melody at the beginning of a new section, briefly. At these points, the new melody significantly contrasts the prior one. At the ending, the piece concludes with a layering of tones and a light stop.
