Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.768518 Composed by Camille Saint-Saens. Arranged by Roar Kvam. Christmas,Romantic Period. Octavo. 80 pages. KVAMusic Edition #6078597. Published by KVAMusic Edition (A0.768518). Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns (9 October 1835-16 December 1921) was a French composer, organist, conductor and pianist. He was a musical prodigy and made his concert debut at the age of ten. After studying at the Paris Conservatoire he followed a conventional career as a church organist, first at Saint-Merri, Paris and, from 1858, La Madeleine, the official church of the French Empire. After leaving the post twenty years later, he was a successful freelance pianist and composer, in demand in Europe and the Americas. As a young man, Saint-Saëns was enthusiastic for the most modern music of the day, particularly that of Schumann, Liszt and Wagner, although his own compositions were generally within a conventional classical tradition. He was a scholar of musical history, and remained committed to the structures worked out by earlier French composers. This brought him into conflict in his later years with composers of the impressionist and dodecaphonic schools of music; although there were neoclassical elements in his music, foreshadowing works by Stravinsky and Les Six, he was often regarded as a reactionary in the decades around the time of his death. He wrote the Oratorio de Noël (Christmas Oratorio) at the end of the 1850s and completed it in 1860. The first performanse was at the church La Madeleine in Paris December 1869. The work is dedicated to A Madame la Vicomtesse de Grandval. The work is originally scored for five soloists, soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, tenor and baritone, mixed choir (except no. 4 which is for SSAA), harp, organ and strings (in this edition the choir has been transcribed for a SSAA choir). Texts in the Oratorio de Noël is drawn from the Old and New Testaments: (1. Instrumental).    2. Luke 2,8-14.   3. Psalm 39,1.   4. John 11.27.   5. Psalm 117, 26-28.   6. Psalm 2,1 and Gloria Patri.   7. Psalm 109,3 and Graduale.   8. Isaiah 49,13.   9. Lamentations 2,19, Mica 4.13, Zachary 9,9, Isaiah 62,1.   10. Psalm 95,8-9, 11,13.

Lagom Music #6118551. Published by Lagom Music (A0.723354). This is a beautiful choral arrangement of For the Beauty of the Earth, one of the most recognizable hymns in all of Christendom. Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.719704 Composed by Curtis Hanson. Christian,Sacred. Octavo. 8 pages. Curtis Hanson #3365207. Published by Curtis Hanson (A0.719704). Here is a new melody and harmonic interpretation of the familiar text by Frederick Faber. The choral writing is not difficult though it has some chromatic alteration in the 3rd line of each verse with the harmony also somewhat different each time. The relaxed piano accompaniment is generally very supportive of the singers so the piece should be accessible for most choirs. It would make a nice addition to the treble voice choral library. It is also available for SATB voices, solo voice, and as a simplified 4-part chorale hymn tune.

Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.774719 Composed by Alfonso Maria de' Liguori. Arranged by Sandra Milliken. Christian,Christmas,Classical,Sacred. Octavo. 12 pages. Sandra Milliken #3676503. Published by Sandra Milliken (A0.774719). Tu scendi dalla stelle is amongst the oldest of Christmas songs in Italy. The original version was written in the mid-1700s in Naples by the Catholic Bishop of Sant'Agata dei Goti, Alfonso Maria de’ Liguori. At that time it was called Quanno nascette Ninno and was written in the Neapolitan dialect in the style of a pastorale. The song was later re-written in Italian by Pope Pius IX and thereafter it became famous as a Christmas carol all over the world.Originally containing seven verses, today’s performances of the carol in Italy generally include only the first two verses. Notable recordings and performances of the carol include those by Sergio Franchi, Andrea Bocelli and Luciano Pavarotti. This arrangement features both Italian and English lyrics, with the English version being a very close adaptation of the original Italian. The carol may therefore be sung in either Italian or English, or a combination of both.Available in 2 Part and SSA, both with piano and optional descant/flute.Also available separately is an instrumental accompaniment for the SSA version, scored for String quintet and glockenspiel, with conductor's score. Published by Curtis Hanson (A0.719718). Three familiar carols for the Christmas season are here arranged for SAB ensemble and piano. Two settings of Away in a Manger (Murray and Kirkpatrick) are juxtaposed with the Polish carol Infant Holy, Infant Lowly. The choral writing is very accessible for any choir of modest ability and the piano accompaniment is generally supportive of the voices. The final verse which uses both the Murray and Kirkpatrick melodies simultaneously could be sung a capella or with accompaniment. This not-too-difficult arrangement for choirs with limited male voices would make a lovely addition to your holiday concert or church service.
