This song was written in 1982 and was recorded by several artists, including Colleen Hewett, Roger Whittaker, Sheena Easton, and Lou Rawls. Ultimately, it was Bette Midler's version for the soundtrack of the 1988 film Beaches that made the greatest impact - it won two Grammy awards in 1990 for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. It reached No.1 in the US charts and No.5 in the UK.
