Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.774734 By Fleet Foxes. By Robin Pecknold. Arranged by Sandra Millien. Contemporary. Octavo. 9 pages. Sandra Milliken #4404578. Published by Sandra Milliken (A0.774734). White Winter Hymnal was first released by the American indie folk band Fleet Foxes in 2008 as the first single from their debut self-titled album. The song was written by group member Robin Pecknold and has been covered by several groups and solo singers including Kim Wilde in 2013 and Pentatonix in 2014.The meaning behind White Winter Hymnal is somewhat open to conjecture. Pecknold has explained that he intended this gently uplifting song to be like Whistle While You Work from Snow White â€“ something to hum along to as you do the dishes. Pecknold added that the words actually tell a more painful story about loss of the innocence of youth, being about my experience when I was a kid, you know, like I had my really tight group of friends. But as we grew up from grade school to junior high to high school, everybody just kind of split off, and everybody kind of changed. I went from like this tight-knit group to, seemingly for no reason, everybody was kind of going their own way. That song is just about that feeling. This very accessible arrangement, featuring piano and guitar accompaniment with tambourine percussion, is ideally suited to winter and general programming, and makes an ideal concert opener.

Choral Choir,Choral,SAB Chorus - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1451983 Composed by Todd Marchand. Christian,Sacred. 5 pages. Con Spirito Music #1031300. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1451983). Written by Henry Williams Baker (1821-1877) and titled “The Lord Shall Give His People the Blessing of Peace,” the text of “O God of Love, Give Peace Again” was published in the 1861 edition of the landmark English hymnal, Hymns Ancient and Modern. Baker, who is perhaps best remembered for his hymn “The King of Love My Shepherd Is,” was chairman of the committee that prepared that hymnal. Because war is a constant in the world, Baker's text is always relevant. Stanza 1 is an entreaty that God would “make wars throughout the world to cease.” Stanza 2 asks that God recall his “works of old,” for only by God's hand can peace be given again. Stanza 3 extends this thought by asking “Whom shall we trust but thee, O Lord? Where rest but on thy faithful word?” and noting that “none ever called on Thee in vain.” A fourth verse, omitted in some hymnals, ends on the hopeful note that as saints and angels are bound “in holy love,” so we might also be bound to them and to one another in love and peace. In this original setting of Baker’s text, stanza 1 is sung by unison voices, stanza 2 by unison women, stanza 3 by unison men, and stanza 4 in parts following a recapitulation of the introduction and a modulation to the relative major key.  ©Copyright 2024 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1357822). “Holy Spirit, Faithful Guide†pairs a text by Marcus Morris Wells (1815-1895) with the Scottish/Irish folk melody “WILD MOUNTAIN THYME.â€Little is known of Wells, who was converted to Christianity as a youth at a mission in Buffalo, New York and spent most of his life near Hartwick, New York as a farmer and maker of farm implements. “Holy Spirit, Faithful Guide†appears to be his single, memorable hymn; according to the website hymnary.org, it has appeared in 675 hymnals since its publication in 1858.The tune used as the basis of this arrangement is known variously as “Wild Mountain Thyme,†“Purple Heather,†and “Will Ye Go, Lassie, Go?†and is a variant of the song “The Braes of Balquhither†by Scottish poet Robert Tannahill (1774–1810) and Scottish composer Robert Archibald Smith (1780–1829), adapted by Belfast musician Francis McPeake (1885–1971) into “Wild Mountain Thyme.†This simple folk melody is ideally suited to the simple, personal sentiment of Wells’ text. ©Copyright 2024 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP).
