Choral Choir (SAB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1266693 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Contest,Country,Festival,Folk,Multicultural,World. Octavo. 11 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #859371. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1266693). This ever-popular American folksong probably has its origins among the French Canadians who traded with Native Americans around the Great Lakes during the sixteenth century. Paddling their canoes along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers the traders were well-known for their singing. However, as most of the traders were illiterate, the songs were never written down and went through numerous changes over the years and centuries. Shenandoah became one of the most popular capstan shanties, a slow song which set a manageable pace for the crew in a heavy and lengthy task. Most versions of the song have a similar couplet at the end of each verse. In some transcriptions, the melody is written out entirely in 4/4 time; others use triple time and some arrangements use a mixture of both. In this version, the lyrics have been selected from different versions of the song. This SAB arrangement for choir and piano is intended for high school, college or amateur choir and is ideal if the number of male voices is limited. The song is set in E flat major and modulates into F major. There is only one brief divisi passage (3 measure) of sustained notes in the soprano part. The top soprano note is F5 on the top line of the treble staff and the lowest note is B♭3 just under the staff. The top alto note is B♭ (mid-staff) (B♭4) and the lowest note is also B♭3. The top baritone note is the D above the bass staff (D4) and the lowest note is the low A♭ on the bass staff (A♭2). With a running time of 04:00 this piece is enjoyable to sing and hear. It’s an essential addition to your choir’s repertoire.

Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1257261 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Folk,Historic,Patriotic,Traditional. Octavo. 11 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #850592. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1257261). Here’s a new SSA choir arrangement of that ever-popular American folksong Shenandoah.  The original song probably has its origins among the French Canadians who traded with Native Americans around the Great Lakes during the sixteenth century. These traders exchanged weapons and tools for animal furs, especially beaver pelts. Paddling their canoes along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers the traders were well-known for their singing. However, as most of the traders were illiterate, the songs were never written down and went through numerous changes over the years and centuries. In most versions of the song, the lyrics tell of a seafarer, possibly a canoeing fur-trader, who was in love with the daughter of Shenandoah, a Native American Chief who lived in what is now the state of Virginia. Shenandoah was a real person: evidently an individual of commanding presence who lived for over a hundred years. This SSA arrangement for choir and piano is conceived for boy choir or girl choir and within easy technical reach of amateur or school choirs. The top soprano note is high F on the treble staff and the other parts fall well within the usual choral range. Each section of the choir takes the melody at some point. With a running time of 04:00 this piece is enjoyable to sing and hear. It’s an essential addition to your choir’s repertoire.

SSA choir and piano - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.7.0672-E Composed by Stephen Chatman. Advanced/Collegiate. Secular, 21st Century, Creation/Nature. Instrument part. 12 pages. Duration 2 minutes, 40 seconds. Galaxy Music Corporation - Digital #7.0672-E. Published by Galaxy Music Corporation - Digital (MQ.7.0672-E). UPC: 600313706721. English.Night Vision was commissioned by Persephone Singers, a women’s choir in Whitehorse, Yukon, directed by Barbara Chamberlin. It was premiered on May 2, 2015 at the Yukon Arts Centre in Whitehorse. This setting of Whitehorse poet, Joanna Lilley, was part of Whitehorse Community Choir’s major commissioning project, which paired Yukon poets with Yukon and Canadian composers and arrangers. The words and music of Night Vision convey the spirit of the cold, vast northern wilderness. The fast, energetic music complements images of wild foxes, coyotes and wolves at night, through the back gate, two pairs of eyes electric in the flash-light. Contrasting homophonic and contrapuntal sections build in intensity toward the climactic final moments and a loud ending. This piece would be an effective finale to a set or program. Duration: 2:40.

Choral Choir,Choral (SAB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1389486 By Leonard Cohen. By Leonard Cohen. Arranged by Justin Matthew Starr. Contemporary,Pop,Rock,Standards. 16 pages. J M Starr Music #973074. Published by J M Starr Music (A0.1389486). “Hallelujah†was originally released by Canadian singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen in 1984 on his album Various Positions. This composition, however, is one of the few in history that may be more well-known due to covers of the song than the original version. In 1991, John Cale did a cover of the song that removed the synthesizers, gospel choir, full band, and low, borderline-talking bass voice from Cohen’s original; and replaced it all with a bare-bones piano and tenor voice. It is not difficult to argue that this arrangement of the composition became the definitive version that all future covers would be based on: from Jeff Buckley’s stripped-down guitar and voice 1994 version, to Rufus Wainright’s piano and voice 2001 cover for the soundtrack to the motion picture Shrek, to k.d. lang, the a cappella group Pentatonix, and many, many more. When I first arranged this song in 2010 for my 8th grade SAB choir, I did not know the John Cale version existed; rather, I started by transcribing the Rufus Wainright recording and then made it my own from there. My arrangement is melodically akin to the Wainright, but I added harmonies in various places throughout. Lyric selection was also a choice I had to me, as each version of the song contains a different number of verses. Cohen’s 1984 original had four, and then in 1988 he sang a live version with seven (supposedly he drafted over 80 different verses!). I decided to go with five. This allowed me to structure the song in a way that got feature and give the melody to: a Soloist(s) (verse 1), the Baritones (verse 2), the Altos (verse 3), the Sopranos (verse 4) and then the entire choir (verse 5). Over the years that I have performed this with my students, I couldn’t help myself from rocking out with little bluesy fills and licks in the final choruses, so I decided to write it in. I hope you, your students, and accompanist have fun with that!
