The alto sings from the first a below middle c to the second d above middle c. The bass runs from the first c below middle c to the the first e above middle c.       The piece lasts about one minute and 15 seconds if you perform it at the tempo marked.       It is not a difficult piece for the singers or for the accompanist; neither is it boring. There is enough repetition of musical ideas to make the piece attainable to most choirs, but also enough variety to make it interesting for more advanced choirs as well as audiences.      The mood is joyful, happy, and fun without being irreverent.     I hope you will get some copies and try it with you choir. Use: Christmas services. Great for choirs low on male voices. Performance: I wrote this piece as the finale to The Father Sent the Son, a cantata I wrote for one of my church choirs. The last theme in this piece is a reprise of the title music. I was thinking of the shepherds running to tell their neighbors what they had seen that wonderful night in Bethlehem. Avoid singing with a heavy tone. There should be buoyancy in the tone and in the diction. The tempo is fast a mm140, but it works if you pianist can handle it. I have done it at mm132 on more than occasion for a piano player's sake. It still worked okay, but if you can manage 140,do it. Lux Aeterna By Sally Whitwell On 12 June, 2016, the international LGBTQ+ community was hit hard with the news of a mass shooting in one of our community’s entertainment venues, a nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Forty nine people were killed, and fifty three wounded in what was deemed a terrorist attack. At the time, it was the deadliest shooting by a single gunman in United States history. I wrote this piece in the wake of that news, I suppose as a way of processing this attack on my community. The club was hosting a special ‘Latin Night’ that night, so the majority of the victims were Hispanic. Culturally, Hispanic populations have a very strong Roman Catholic tradition, so it seemed the right thing to incorporate a piece of the Catholic Requiem Mass. The Lux Aeterna is the Communion antiphon for that Mass. Lux aeterna luceat eis, Domine:Cum Sanctis tuis in aeternum: quia pius es. Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine: et lux perpetua luceat eis.
