In order to expose my small church choir to the joys of a cappella singing, I wrote this SAB arrangement with parts that are very singable and easy to learn. The first verse is in octaves/unison to allow the performers to get a confident start before breaking into three parts in the refrain. Verse two features the baritones carrying the melody, accompanied by gentle harmony in the other two parts. The sopranos have the tune in the third verse, while the altos and baritones echo them with an underlying harmonized canon. The final verse has a simple soprano descant over the melody in the lower voices. After a strong build in the final refrain, the piece ends gently. This arrangement is a reachable challenge for a small a cappella choir.

This version of Hosanna, Loud Hosanna is part of my series of arrangements for small church choir. I am the director of a church choir which usually consists of eight to ten singers. We often do not have the personnel to be able to perform SATB hymns from the hymnal, due to lack of numbers and the difficulty of the parts. In this arrangement I have lowered the key to make the ranges more comfortable, simplified the parts, and converted the hymn from SATB to SAB. We recently performed it as part of our cantata for Palm Sunday. I hope you can make use of it for your church choir!

This triumphant Easter hymn (a.k.a. “Thine Be the Glory�) has been newly-arranged for a cappella choir.  Some phrases are repeated to add a contrapuntal flavor.  Verse two is softer and in rhythmic diminution, creating a lighter sound. Verse three is similar to verse one, but louder, building toward the glorious ending.  Appropriate as an exalted prelude or postlude, worship, concert, contest/festival, or recital setting.  Adaptable to school or church choirs.  Performance Time:  4:02.
