Petit Papa Noël (Little Father Christmas) is a popular French Christmas song. It first appeared just after the end of the Second World War when it was recorded by Tino Rossi. It has since become incredibly popular, well-known today by most French children.
 
But the success of the song does not stop at the borders of France. It has been translated into many languages and exported to many countries. Even in English-speaking countries, it is often performed in the original French.  Several well-kmown artists have recorded covers of Petit Papa Noël, including Nana Mouskouri, Céline Dion, Josh Groban and Roberto Alagna.
 
This arrangement includes lyrics in both French and English, with a guide to the French pronunciation provided in standard IPA (Internation Phonetic Alphabet) format. It is also available in SAB and SATB voicings, with a piano accompaniment.

A slight rewording of the penultimate line in Robert Lowry’s “How Can I Keep From Singing� provides the inspiration for this otherwise original text by David Lantz III. “All things are mine since I am His� becomes a bit more personal by changing “His� to “Yours�. The textual hook is “All things are mine since I am Yours, and I am Yours forevermore.

This beautiful, yet very simple piece can be learned in one short rehearsal. There is ample unison and two-part writing, an opportunity for a soloist, an easy, lyrical piano part, and effective three-part writing in the key moments of the anthem.
