Choral Choir (SAB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.915682 Composed by Richard Joseph Barber. 20th Century,Christian,Christmas,Classical,Romantic Period. Octavo. 5 pages. Barber Music Company #3691481. Published by Barber Music Company (A0.915682).      On the Night that Christ Was Born, words and music by Richard Joseph Barber, is a three-part (SAB) composition for Advent.      The soprano range is from middle c to the second d above middle c . The alto sings from the first a below middle c to the second d above middle c. The bass runs from the first c below middle c to the the first e above middle c.       The piece lasts about one minute and 15 seconds if you perform it at the tempo marked.       It is not a difficult piece for the singers or for the accompanist; neither is it boring. There is enough repetition of musical ideas to make the piece attainable to most choirs, but also enough variety to make it interesting for more advanced choirs as well as audiences.      The mood is joyful, happy, and fun without being irreverent.     I hope you will get some copies and try it with you choir. Please let me know how you and your choir and your audience(s) liked it. And if you have questions or comments about the piece, please do not hesitate contact me.                                                                                                Sincerely,                                                                                                Dick Barber, aspiringtunerrjb@sbcglobal.net  .

Choral Choir (SAB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1264866 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Celtic,Folk,Irish,Wedding. Octavo. 9 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #857705. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1264866). This lovely folksong is thought to have come from Scotland, though similar versions have been recorded in other parts of Britain. The song is also known as “O Waly, Waly†which means something like “woe is meâ€. For such an old song, it is not surprising that there are many variations of the lyrics. An early version of the modern lyrics was consolidated by the British folksong collector Cecil Sharp in 1906, using multiple older sources in southern England. There are many sets of lyrics with different story-lines. This was because in the past, performers would often create new lyrics for the song. This melody has attracted an entire family of lyrics many of which bear little relationship to each other. The words used in this choral arrangement reflect the popular lyrics used during the twentieth century. The song was arranged for voice and piano in 1948 by British composer Benjamin Britten but in more recent times, was made popular by many folk singers notably The Seekers, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. It has become one of the most popular folk songs today, largely because of its beautiful tune. But as with the lyrics, there are many variations on the melody with the result that no single variation can be considered the “correct†one. This SAB arrangement by Colin Kirkpatrick is ideal for high school or college choir. Each section of the choir as the melody line at some point and there are attractive and evocative counter-melodies. In the soprano part (which has one brief divisi section), the highest not is G5 which appears only once and is approached safely.  The highest note in the alto part is C5 (in the middle of the treble staff). The baritone part lies between A flart 2 and D 3 (just above the staff) and well within the normal choral range. The piano part is an integral part of the arrangement and therefore essential. The music begins in E flat and modulates to C major. Running at just over three minutes, the work is sure to be popular with choir and audiences alike.

Choral Choir (SAB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1266693 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Contest,Country,Festival,Folk,Multicultural,World. Octavo. 11 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #859371. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1266693). This ever-popular American folksong probably has its origins among the French Canadians who traded with Native Americans around the Great Lakes during the sixteenth century. Paddling their canoes along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers the traders were well-known for their singing. However, as most of the traders were illiterate, the songs were never written down and went through numerous changes over the years and centuries. Shenandoah became one of the most popular capstan shanties, a slow song which set a manageable pace for the crew in a heavy and lengthy task. Most versions of the song have a similar couplet at the end of each verse. In some transcriptions, the melody is written out entirely in 4/4 time; others use triple time and some arrangements use a mixture of both. In this version, the lyrics have been selected from different versions of the song. This SAB arrangement for choir and piano is intended for high school, college or amateur choir and is ideal if the number of male voices is limited. The song is set in E flat major and modulates into F major. There is only one brief divisi passage (3 measure) of sustained notes in the soprano part. The top soprano note is F5 on the top line of the treble staff and the lowest note is B♭3 just under the staff. The top alto note is B♭ (mid-staff) (B♭4) and the lowest note is also B♭3. The top baritone note is the D above the bass staff (D4) and the lowest note is the low A♭ on the bass staff (A♭2). With a running time of 04:00 this piece is enjoyable to sing and hear. It’s an essential addition to your choir’s repertoire.
