Thomas Weelkes (ca. 1576-1623) published, during his lifetime, five collections of madrigals, but also composed a considerable amount of sacred music in his position as organist and choirmaster at Chichester Cathedral. This madrigal is notated for treble voices, but was probably performed by males an octave lower. Here, the piece is transposed to suit a mixed choral ensemble.

Alice Tegner (1864-1943) is the most famous Swedish composer of children's songs; all Swedes know many of these songs. But she composed so much more which is not wellknown, mostly because it was never published.

These three songs were found during the work on a new book, Alice Tegner - Musikskapare, which also contains some 70 songs for solo voice and choir as well as some piano pieces.

The three songs in German are composed to lyrics by Finnish poet Zackarias Topelius, the great J.W. Goethe and an anonymous poet (maybe A.T. herself). The style is romantic in a very attractive way. I do hope that many women choirs will find this music!
