Oscar Hammerstein II felt that the imagery of climbing mountains and fording streams suited Maria's character, as she seeks to find her own spiritual pathway and ultimately an escape to freedom with the von Trapp family. The singing needs to be strong and uplifting too - notice how the opening melody returns in the final section transposed to a higher key. This 3-part arrangement would suit church, school and amateur choirs and the piano accompaniment supports the voices throughout. Drums and bass can add a lot here.It is an easy arrangement, but getting the order of the the verses was the most challenging part :)Enjoy!
