It embraces the contributions immigrants have made to this country. It’s perfect for Americana/Fourth of July-themed concerts. It features a major solo. The lyrics tell the story.SOLO: Set sail across these waters over a wide and open seaWith my wife and my son and daughters to this land of OpportunityDisembarking at Ellis Island feelings of pride came over meAs the veil of the mist that shrouded her lifted up I could clearly seeStanding tall she lifted my heart, revealing all I’d come to beShe holds the light for my rights, for my life, for my child, for my landCHORUS: She stands for me. Lady Liberty lifted me up. She stands for me SOLO: Two hundred years we now flash forward at the dawn of this brave new worldAs I stand with my eyes gazing upward she still stands with the light in her handIt still shines as bright as it can be for those still longing to breathe freeThough by the waves we are tossed as we weather the storms she still shows us who we can beStanding tall she lifted my heart, showing all we’d come to beStands for the lonely and lost and those tempest tossed she still standsCHORUS: She stands for me. Lady Liberty lifted me up. She stands for me VARIOUS SOLOS: I am the farmer standing by my plowThe small business owner makes a go of it nowI am the dreamer through no fault of mineBut still wanting a life and a future that’s bright/ We are the couple blessed by eyes aboveBut stripped of our rights because of who we love We are the tired, the oppressed and the poorThe huddled masses at the golden doorCHORUS: We are a people of all colors and creedsTogether we’re strong in our diversityLady Liberty lifted me up. She stands for me.

Choral Choir (SAB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.915688 Composed by Richard Joseph Barber. 20th Century,Christian,Christmas,Sacred. Octavo. 11 pages. Barber Music Company #3820397. Published by Barber Music Company (A0.915688). Voicing: SAB. Ranges: Sop., F4 to G5; Alt., A3 to D5; Bass, F2 to D4.                                                                                      Mood: Rejoicing, praise and thanksgiving over the Father's gift of His Son, who came to set us free from sin and death. Difficulty: Not difficult. Not hard to learn. Fun to sing. The piano part will take some practice and will require a comfortable octave reach. History: The Father Sent the Son is the title song of a cantata I composed ten or so years ago for a church choir that could barely muster a men's section. They loved to sing. They rehearsed every Sunday afternoon between services and sang every Sunday morning for worship and often in the evenings. They loved the entire cantata and sang it with enthusiasm. Since that time other choirs have song the cantata, and I have added and subtracted and rewritten through the years. I wanted to get the entire cantata as close to perfection as possible before I published it, but I have decided to publish the portions I am most happy with piecemeal for the time being. When all portions are where I thing they should be, I will publish the entire cantata as one work. Lord willing, of course.  Please let me know if you enjoy the music I write. It is encouraging to hear from people who have enjoyed my work, or even from those who want to offer a criticism or suggestion. Dick Barber, aspiringtunerjb@sbcglobal.net

Choral Choir,Choral (SSA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1307929 Composed by Franz Xaver Gruber. Arranged by John Sandford. Blues,Christmas,Holiday,Jazz,Religious. 6 pages. John A Sandford #897217. Published by John A Sandford (A0.1307929). This is a simple but effective reworking of the standard Christmas carol for the modern age. I have changed the time signature to common time (from its original 3/4) and introduced a shuffle rhythm in the accompaniment and vocals. Although written as SSA, the lower part could probably be sung by tenor voices. There is a descant for a few upper voices in the final verse.Although the song is considerably different to the original, being more of a Jazz/Blues number, it  is still, in essence, a simple Christmas song to be enjoyed by choirs of any size or ability.

Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.774753 Composed by Peter Allen. Arranged by Sandra Milliken. Contemporary. Octavo. 12 pages. Sandra Milliken #5302929. Published by Sandra Milliken (A0.774753). I Still Call Australia Home was written, first performed and recorded by Peter Allen in 1980. In that year the song peaked on the Australian Singles Chart at number 72. But whilst its initial impact was somewhat less than stellar, it has gone on to become one of those songs that is part of the national psyche and is well-known by most Australians. In I still Call Australia Home Peter Allen wrote of his longing, no matter where in the World he might travel, to always return home to Australia, where he could be near his family and friends once again. The song is now regarded as a heart-warming expression of  Australian patriotism and nostalgia for home. Its adoption by Qantas in the mid 1990s as the centrepiece of a long-running advertising campaign exposed a new generation of Australians to the song and greatly boosted its popularity. The Qantas campaign became one of the top Australian television campaigns of all time. It has linked together Australians living at home with those travelling or living overseas. Beginning with a number of well-known Australian musicians, the campaign went on to become associated with the Australian Girls Choir, the National Boys Choir and the Gondwana National Indigenous Children’s Choir. The song has featured in television programs, benefit concerts, sporting event ceremonies, and was included in the musical, The Boy From Oz, which starred Todd McKenney as Peter Allen in the Australian production and Hugh Jackman in the title role when the musical transferred to Broadway. This arrangement, with piano accompaniment, is available in SATB, SSA, SAB and 2-Part voicings.

Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.887976 Composed by Graham Yates. Children,Christmas,Contemporary,Standards. Octavo. 8 pages. Graham Yates #6027209. Published by Graham Yates (A0.887976). For 2 soloists, children's choir (or treble choir, or mixed choir), and piano accompaniment. Approx. 3:42.I first began writing a Christmas carol about the Covid-19 pandemic in March of 2020 when it seemed unfathomable that the global social distancing measures could last until Christmas. First drafts, therefore, were upbeat and whimsical. The song was completed in May 2020, however, and not only did it seem likely that lockdowns could extend not only to Christmas, but beyond – until a treatment or a vaccine could be found. Though obviously written with this contemporary situation in mind, Holding on for Christmas avoids direct references to remain a universal message of hope despite hopeless circumstances. Through its imagery of a Nativity story told wrong, of an individual facing unexplained solitude, and of enduring a winter in order to experience brighter days ahead, the song can apply to many cryptic or overt scenarios.

Choral Choir,Choral (SAB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1389486 By Leonard Cohen. By Leonard Cohen. Arranged by Justin Matthew Starr. Contemporary,Pop,Rock,Standards. 16 pages. J M Starr Music #973074. Published by J M Starr Music (A0.1389486). “Hallelujah†was originally released by Canadian singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen in 1984 on his album Various Positions. This composition, however, is one of the few in history that may be more well-known due to covers of the song than the original version. In 1991, John Cale did a cover of the song that removed the synthesizers, gospel choir, full band, and low, borderline-talking bass voice from Cohen’s original; and replaced it all with a bare-bones piano and tenor voice. It is not difficult to argue that this arrangement of the composition became the definitive version that all future covers would be based on: from Jeff Buckley’s stripped-down guitar and voice 1994 version, to Rufus Wainright’s piano and voice 2001 cover for the soundtrack to the motion picture Shrek, to k.d. lang, the a cappella group Pentatonix, and many, many more. When I first arranged this song in 2010 for my 8th grade SAB choir, I did not know the John Cale version existed; rather, I started by transcribing the Rufus Wainright recording and then made it my own from there. My arrangement is melodically akin to the Wainright, but I added harmonies in various places throughout. Lyric selection was also a choice I had to me, as each version of the song contains a different number of verses. Cohen’s 1984 original had four, and then in 1988 he sang a live version with seven (supposedly he drafted over 80 different verses!). I decided to go with five. This allowed me to structure the song in a way that got feature and give the melody to: a Soloist(s) (verse 1), the Baritones (verse 2), the Altos (verse 3), the Sopranos (verse 4) and then the entire choir (verse 5). Over the years that I have performed this with my students, I couldn’t help myself from rocking out with little bluesy fills and licks in the final choruses, so I decided to write it in. I hope you, your students, and accompanist have fun with that!

Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1003298 Composed by Dennis Tobenski. Contemporary,Folk. Octavo. 12 pages. Dennis Tobenski #539737. Published by Dennis Tobenski (A0.1003298). Sunset: St. Louis for SSA choir and piano was written at the suggestion of a conductor I met at the 2013 American Choral Directors’ Association national conference in Dallas, TX. He lamented the lack of new music for SSA choir that kept the voices within a restricted range yet wasn’t simplistic, and also didn’t use a restricitve number of accompanying instruments; throughout the week his sentiment was echoed by countless other conductors who I had the pleasure of spending time with. At that point, I also had no music for treble/women’s choir in my catalog, so this piece is not only an attempt to fill in this hole in the repertoire, but also an attempt to fill in the hole in my own choral output. The piece opens with a short passage for solo piano evocative of late afternoon light on water which leads into the voices’ hazy entrance of close diatonic harmonies and loose, liquid rhythms. After this soft opening, the piano begins a gently undulating, water-like accompaniment that – like the Mississippi – flows by, bringing harmonic shifts and swells. The words Dream by the river captured my imagination, conjuring images of the city drifting to sleep as the sun sets, so I couldn’t resist making the single word Dream into a refrain, weaving it into the larger structure of the poem, which makes the piece not only a love song to the city, but also a lullaby. The vocal parts have a compressed range: Soprano 1 has a few unsustained Gs, and the Alto line never drops below B-flat. There are some minor challenges with rhythm and pitch (hemiolas, tuplets, and some harmonic cross-relations with the piano), but all are navigable. The piece was written and prepared for publication in a compositional frenzy between 1pm on March 30, 2013 and 7pm on March 31, 2013 in Montauk, NY.Duration: ca. 4 min. Composed: 2013 Registered with ASCAP. Please email dennis@dennistobenski.com so that your performance of Sunset: St. Louis can be added to Dennis' website calendar. Choral Choir (SAB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1164155 Composed by Kevin Frecker. A Cappella,Chamber,Comedy. Octavo. 5 pages. Kevin Frecker #764211. Published by Kevin Frecker (A0.1164155). The Owl and the Pussycat is a nonsense poem written by Edward Lear in 1870. It takes me back to my late teens and early twenties when I would recite this poem with my 2 sisters. They would take the parts of the Narrator, the Owl, and the Pussycat. That would leave me with two words, the most important line in the poem, the Piggy-wig's line I will. Without this one line, the goal of the poem cannot be achieved - the marriage between the Owl and the Pussycat.Since this is a nonsense poem, the tempo and dynamic variations can be exaggerated to bring out the humor in the text. This setting is most ideal for an ensemble of soloists, but it could also be performed by an SAB choir with soloists for the parts of the Owl, the Pussycat, and the Piggy-wig. Happy singing!
