SKU: A0.1514358

By Kim Kirkman. By John Henry Hopkins Jnr. Arranged by Kim Kirkman. Christmas,Comedy. 6 pages. Kim Kirkman #1088836. Published by Kim Kirkman (A0.1514358).

We Three Kings re-written to commiserated with those epic walkers of old. Those of fantastic feet. Those with super sandals.
Arranged for three voices and piano.

Lyrics:
Tutti: We three kings of Orient are;
bearing gifts we traverse afar,
sandals flopping, without stopping
following yonder star.

Refrain:
O star of wonder, star of light,
star with royal beauty bright,
westward leading, still proceeding,
How far to this Nazarite?

King I: Born a King on Bethlehem's plain,
gold I bring to crown him again,
Walking ever, ceasing never,
Wowzers my leg’s in pain.

Tutti: O star of wonder, star of light,
star with royal beauty bright,
westward leading, still proceeding,
Trav’lling on both day and night.

King II: Frankincense to offer have I;
incense owns a Deity nigh;
Real trail-blazing, it’s hair-raising,
Trudging along, I sigh.

Tutti: O star of wonder, star of light,
star with royal beauty bright,
westward leading, still proceeding,
Breaks are a true delight.

 King III: Myrrh is mine; its bitter perfume
breathes a life of gathering gloom;
blisters bleeding, not conceding,
Where is the next bathroom?

Tutti: O star of wonder, star of light,
star with royal beauty bright,
westward leading, still proceeding,
Dunes are a gruesome sight.

 Tutti: Glorious now, at last we’ve arrived,
From our comforts we’ve been deprived:
Presents given, wish we’d been driven
Don’t think my knees survived.

 Tutti: O star of wonder, star of light,
star with royal beauty bright,
West we followed, pain we swallowed,
Back we sorely trudge tonight.

 Comments as leave stage: What, all the way back again? Home again, jigged-jog. We just came all this way West and now we have to go back east?

Composed by Maria Thompson Corley. Concert,Contemporary. Octavo. 7 pages. Maria Thompson Corley #6679309. Published by Maria Thompson Corley (A0.845956).

The text to this dramatic, intense song was inspired by the events of the summer of 2020; that said, the trope it addresses goes back for many years. The message is this: no person can be summed up by one emotion, and all have the right to be angry, on occasion. Black women have more reason to be angry than a lot of people, and while we shouldn't be consumed by anger, we shouldn't feel like we can't express it, either. Anger results from hurt or fear; the more lyrical middle section alludes to the pain that we've experienced. The song ends with the defiant question: But what if I were? If you have questions, Raehann Bryce and Jeanne-Minette Cilliers capture this song perfectly in the YouTube video. For reasons I can't explain, I'm unable to add the link, however, it's on my Maria Corley YouTube channel.

Camiña Don Sancho is a so-called border romancillo, from Galicia (Spain), popularized in the 14th century through minstrels, and which constitute poetic documents of the history and intrahistory of two opposing communities (Christian and Muslim). It talks about more or less true facts and famous historical figures belonging to the common history of León and Galicia (former independent kingdoms, currently Spanish autonomous communities).

In it, once again, the figure of King Don Sancho appears linked to the myth of the young captive in the Iberian peninsular Muslim territory, and whom he is preparing to liberate. The original melody is built in the Phrygian mode, one of the medieval musical modes, on which this polyphonic version is also made, finally taking it to the point of the so-called gypsy and Arabic scales; hence its title: Frixia (in Galician languaje)

[ESP]

Composed by Celine Tsoi. Contemporary,Holiday,Instructional,Love,Standards. Octavo. 20 pages. Celine Tsoi #3518551. Published by Celine Tsoi (A0.1011599).

Tu te Rappelles? , meaning ‘do you remember?’, depicts the love of a girl to her partner. She reminiscences about her past memories with him and in the climax, she proclaims her love for him as she is soon to leave his side.

This combination, an SSA choir with violin and piano, is chosen for it captures the character of a female speaker, and the piano adds depth to the piece but still keeps the gentleness of the message. The bright timbre of the violin as well as the use of D major is to convey positivity: this is not a sad piece. This speaker looks forward to the future and treasures their past moments together.

This piece is in verse-chorus form. The chorus, starting from ‘Je t’aimerai’, and followed by ‘Jusqu’a...’ repeats three times before arriving at the final climax in A major. In between the second chorus and the third chorus, a transitional section, in F# minor, is added. This section, as it is about her difficult decision to leave, is stronger and faster than other sections.

The original lyrics are inspired by a famous TV show, Game of Thrones , in which a character says the lyrics in the chorus. Different techniques are used to bring out the message in the lyrics, such as word-painting, use of harmony and instruments, and key changes.

Parting is inevitable in any relationship. I hope this piece can describe some emotions and thoughts in the face of parting and can echo among not only lovers but families and friends as well.

You can't miss the vivid text painting as the floating vocal parts layer one upon another in the rich sequential refrain. You can almost feel the chill of a winter wind as the haunting opening theme is combined with a chromatically descending counter melody. It's classic choral writing with a contemporary flair. Logical, comfortable singing in all four voicings makes it easy for your choir to sing a sophisticated, secular choral work this winter.

SSA choir and piano - Moderately Easy - Digital Download

SKU: MQ.8227-E

Composed by Gwyneth W. Walker. Secular, 21st century. Instrument part. 16 pages. Duration 4 minutes, 30 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8227-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8227-E).

English.

A very poignant song. Phrases such as Hush little baby, don’t you cry, you know your mama was born to die, or Oh my brothers, I must leave you here behind, view the approach of death in terms of those left behind.

The accompaniment of repeated 8th-note chords is marked as if trembling or sobbing. Although the harmonic language is tonal and consonant almost entirely throughout the song, a few dissonances appear near the end, reflecting the pain of parting. Duration: 4:30.
