Choral Choir,Choral (SSA) - Level 2 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1287383

Composed by Sebastián Iradier. Arranged by Julie Settle and Sally Bauer. 19th Century,Latin,Multicultural,Romantic Period,Standards,World. 4 pages. Julie Settle #878401. Published by Julie Settle (A0.1287383).

Probably the world’s most well-known song in the habanera style arranged for SSA + piano.

‘La Paloma’ was written in the early 1860s by the Spanish Basque composer Sebastián Iradier, after a visit to Cuba.  Particularly popular in the Spanish speaking world, especially Mexico, ‘La Paloma’ has also been written and recorded in various other languages over the years.  (You may know the English version ‘No More’ sung by Elvis Presley in his film Blue Hawaii.)  I have read that along with ‘Yesterday’ by The Beatles, it is one of the most recorded songs in the history of music, certainly the most recorded Spanish song.

Iradier’s original Spanish lyrics are written in four verses from the point of view of a sailor leaving Havana and parting from his sweetheart, dreaming of their wedding day and life together, and asking her to cherish his spirit if it returns to her window as a dove.  This SSA version has English text which tells the story in two verses.

The piano accompaniment is a simple habanera style arrangement which allows the SSA harmonies to shine through.

SKU: A0.1133340

By The Beatles. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Alexandra L. Uitdenbogerd. A Cappella,Multicultural,New Age,Pop,Singer/Songwriter,World. Octavo. 5 pages. Alexandra L. Uitdenbogerd #733473. Published by Alexandra L. Uitdenbogerd (A0.1133340).

SAA arrangement of Across the Universe by the Beatles with melody shared by the upper two parts until the third verse, when the lowest part takes the melody with homophonic harmonies above it. Ranges Soprano: Middle C (C4) to D5 Alto 1: G3 to C5 Alto 2: G3 to A4 Program Notes Across the Universe was a song written by John Lennon and performed by the Beatles. Lennon turned a negative reaction to Cynthia Lennon’s chatter into an inspired, positive, transcendental meditation-influenced song. It was first released on a charity album and included female backing vocals and a children’s choir. A pared back version was then released on the Beatles Let It Be album. I was inspired by but too late for the Space and Time themed RMIT Music concert, which happened to be on John Lennon’s birthday, and arranged the song for SAA voices, with the melody in an alto-friendly key, matching the CORP attendees at the time. The melody is faithful to the original recording, adds an accompanying “wah-wah†in the second verse, suggestive of the trippy guitar effect, and reinstates the female backing vocals in the third verse.

By The Beatles. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Sandra Milliken. Contemporary,Pop,Rock. Octavo. 16 pages. Sandra Milliken #767503. Published by Sandra Milliken (A0.1167129).

“With a Little Help from My Friends†is the second track on the 1967 Beatles’ album “Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.†The track features lead vocals, drums and tambourine by Ringo Starr, with the other Beatles providing backing vocals, lead and rhythm guitar, piano, bass and cowbell. The song was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney specifically as Starr’s track for the album. Story has it that Starr’s vocals were recorded with his bandmates standing around him, true to the spirit of the song. “With a Little Help from My Friends†was later successfully recorded by Joe Cocker (1968) and Wet, Wet, Wet (1998) and was adopted as the theme song for the iconic 1988 television show “The Wonder Yearsâ€.

Composed by Alan Bergman, Marilyn Bergman, and Michel Legrand. Arranged by Hazel Hannam. 20th Century,A Cappella,Film/TV,Pop. 6 pages. Hazel Hannam #1003077. Published by Hazel Hannam (A0.1421731).

Windmills of Your Mind is a haunting song written for 3 voice-parts, Soprano, Alto and Bass. It has been arranged  to be sung a cappella but if this is too challenging for your choir the chord symbols have been added to the score so that your choir can be accompanied on piano or guitar.
The melody is shared around the parts making it enjoyable to learn. It is a concert-pleaser too!

I hope you enjoy this arrangement of this great Beatles' classic. Please let me know how you get on with and send me any links to youtube of your choir singing it. I'd love to hear you! Email: hazelhannam@icloud.com  Thanks for your support in buying this arrangment. See more of my arrangements on this website by searching Hazel Hannam. Thank you.
