Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1251832 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Celtic,Folk,Irish,Multicultural,Wedding,World. Octavo. 9 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #846048. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1251832). This lovely folksong is thought to have come from Scotland, though similar versions have been recorded in other parts of Britain. The song is also known as “O Waly, Waly†which means something like “woe is meâ€. For such an old song, it is not surprising that there are many variations of the lyrics. An early version of the modern lyrics was consolidated by the British folksong collector Cecil Sharp in 1906 using multiple older sources in southern England. There are many sets of lyrics with different story-lines. This was because performers would often create new lyrics for the song. This melody has attracted a family of lyrics many of which bear little relationship to each other. The words used in this choral arrangement reflect the popular and optimistic lyrics used during the twentieth century. The song was made popular by many folk singers notably Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. It has become one of the most popular folk songs today, largely because of its beautiful tune. But as with the lyrics, there are many variations on the melody with the result that no single variation can be considered the “correct†one. This SSA arrangement by Colin Kirkpatrick is ideal for boy choir, amateur choir, school or college choir. Each section of the choir as the melody line at some point and there are attractive and evocative counter-melodies. In the Soprano 1 part (which has one brief divisi section), the highest note is G5 (the G just above the staff) and the highest note in the Soprano 2 part is E5 (near the top of the treble staff). The Alto part has a range of G below Middle C (G4) up to B flat in the middle of the treble staff. The piano part is an integral part of the arrangement and therefore essential. The music begins in E flat and modulates to C major. Running at just over three minutes, the work is sure to be popular with choir and audiences alike. Note that the audio sample cannot yet render the words.

Alfred Archive Edition: Alfred Church Choral Series. 20th Century; Christmas; Masterwork Arrangement; Romantic; Sacred. Choral Octavo. 8 pages. Jubilate Music Group - Digital #00-18330. This gently expressive new setting of Gustav Holst's classic Christmas carol features an exquisite keyboard theme that paints the cold winter scene at the manger. Unison and two-part vocals highlight the opening verses. Full acapella choral writing (opt. accopmaninent) brings a chilling air to the opening of the third verse, with the keyboard theme returning for a breathtaking close. Highly recommended for school holiday concerts and Christmas worship, especially a service of Lessons and Carols.

Choral Choir,Choral,SAB Chorus - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1404911 By Gerda Blok-Wilson. By Gerda Blok-Wilson. 21st Century,Advent,Christmas,Contemporary,Instructional. 11 pages. CanSing #987943. Published by CanSing (A0.1404911). Ecce Cantus Nostrum invites you to embark on a musical journey that celebrates unity, resilience, and the shared human experience.  With the heartbeat as its foundation, the song pulses with a rhythm  that unites us from the very beginning.   As voices intertwine, a tapestry  of sound is woven, reflecting the strength found in our collective spirit.  One people, one voice echoes through the verses, underscoring the  power of unity.   This anthem is  a declaration of hope for the future, where, together,  we shine in harmony. The piece would fit with most choral concert themes and could work well as an opener or closer for a program. It is available in SATB, SAB and SB with piano accompaniment. www.gerdablokwilson.caSocial Media informationYoutube: Cansing ChoralInstagram: gerdachoralcomposerFaceBook: Gerda Blok-WilsonTwitter: @BlokWilsonThreads: gerdachoralcomposerEmail: gerda.blokwilson@gmail.com for information about individual practice files. Choral Choir (SAB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1120365 By Philip Le Bas. By J-B Lully / G Bizet. Arranged by Philip Le Bas. Christmas,Praise & Worship,Religious,Sacred,Traditional. Octavo. 8 pages. Philip Le Bas #721616. Published by Philip Le Bas (A0.1120365). A new arrangement by Philip Le Bas of a thirteenth century French Christmas carol from Provence harmonized by Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-87, attrib.) and, more famously, by Georges Bizet (1838-75, in his L'Arlesienne Suite of 1872.) In France the melody is still tightly associated with Christmas, and French audiences start singing their own Christmas words whenever they hear the melody (the arranger has heard it himself!) The English translation used here is adapted from a variety of sources. The three kings (or more precisely the magi from St Matthew's gospel) are seen marching towards Bethlehem with their fantastic golden wealth and grandeur. But why are they going to see a low-born baby and why do they worship this child who will die on a cross? The organ sets the scene from the beginning with its marching accompaniment, and the first verse is sung in unison by all three parts. The second begins with a canon, as used by Bizet, and then breaks into harmony. The first section of the third verse is much quieter and legato, sung by the sopranos and altos, using wonderful chromatic harmonies based on another section from Bizet's suite. The lyrics express wonder at the beautiful music heard from the camp of the kings. The second section, sung in differentiated unison then begins to wonder why the kings stoop so low to a baby in a manger. Finally the fourth verse, sung in full harmony, returns to the marching accompaniment and reiterates the amazement of meeting these kings with their mysterious mission. The carol is aimed at parish choirs with limited resources, but a good organist. The melody is well-known, much of it is in unison, and other sections are relatively easy to sing. Care should however should be taken to sing the dotted rhythms accurately - this is what gives the carol its marching character.

Choral Choir,Choral (SSA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.890639 Composed by Stella ter Hart. Arranged by Stella ter Hart. 20th Century,Folk,Standards. 12 pages. Stella ter Hart #3455153. Published by Stella ter Hart (A0.890639). This hauntingly beautiful and artistic arrangement of She's Like the Swallow contains the original, very old Newfoundland folk text very rarely used due to it's tragic story line. It is in the genre of beware the uncaring man common in folk songs of Europe which served to teach and warn young girls about the dangers of infatuation.  This genre travelled to the United States and Canada in the 1700's. The expression apron low/apron high is a common thread in this genre and refers to being pregnant.  She's Like the Swallow tells the tragic tale of a young girl who has fallen in love with, no doubt, a handsome but uncaring man.  The story is told from each character's perspective plus an observer (narrator).  The girl ultimately creates her own funeral bower of rose petals (ripping them off in desperation as she frantically runs through a garden), lies down on this 'bed of roses' and dies.  You have probably heard this song many times without ever knowing the true meaning due to significant verses left out. You will need a skilled accompanist!  The accompaniment utilizes significant word painting throughout to highlight the haunting melody line. Word painting depicts the swallow, uncaring cruelty, desperation, blindly going in circles, anger, church bells and fading away/dying.  The conductor is free to take liberties with the tempi and dynamics in order to create a unique interpretation that will resonate with their own choral group. This arrangement of She's Like the Swallow is an exceptional festival or competition piece and one that should be in the repertoire of every skilled women's choir! Duration:  4 minutes                                                                                                                                                             Key: C minor (plus modulations)                                                                                                                                                                      Level: intermediate/early advanced composer contact:  www.stellaterhart.com
