SKU: A0.1127914

Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Philip Le Bas. Christian,Christmas,Easter,Sacred. 57 pages. Philip Le Bas #728523. Published by Philip Le Bas (A0.1127914).

A new setting by Philip Le Bas of the ancient carol The Seven Joys of Mary (or Joys Seven, or a variety of other possible titles.) This version includes the optional flute and B flat clarinet parts. Since medieval times the number of Joys of Mary has varied between five, seven, ten and twelve, but the the current number of seven has become popular, especially since the basic harmonization of R.R. Terry published in 1833 and the contemporary version for 8-part choir by Stephen Cleobury in the OUP's Carols for Choirs series. (A history of the carol can be found in the New Oxford Book of Carols, edited by H Keyte and A Parrott, p.462f.) The version presented here is kept relatively simple to perform, being scored only for three-part choir (SABar - soprano, alto, baritone) and piano, but with plenty of interest including changes in voicing, changes of rhythm (especially verse 6) and two key changes. The arranger hopes performers and listeners will find it energetic and fun! It should certainly be sung in that spirit! Although often associated with Christmas, it could in fact be performed in any season, including Easter, referring as it does to the whole life, death and resurrection of Christ.

A Christmas Worship Experience of the Christ-Light. Composed by Laura Kathryn Rosser and Mary McDonald. With Optional Full Orchestra, Choral Cantatas. Christmas. 92 pages. Monarch Music #e65/1984M. Published by Monarch Music (LX.65-1984M).

The significance of Christ's coming is beautifully conveyed in this service of worship for the Christmas season. Recognizing Jesus' birth as the coming of the Christ-Light offers us hope, peace, light, joy, and love. We sense the celebration shared by all who welcome Him, from the Israelites 2,000 years ago to each of us who invite this Child into our hearts today. The blending of new anthems with familiar carols and choruses makes this suitable for traditional and blended churches alike. Beginning with a quiet theme incorporating the beloved Londonderry Air, the orchestral overture is soon energized with a Celtic setting of the French carol He Is Born. A brief narrative precedes an optional candlelight processional by the choir while familiar choruses and carols offer the congregation an opportunity to join in singing this celebration of Christ's birth. Other well-known tunes include the chorus I Worship You, Almighty God, and a fresh version of When You Left Your Throne..

SKU: A0.772883

Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Paul Ayres. Christian,Christmas,Classical,Contemporary,Sacred. Octavo. 3 pages. Paul Ayres #3078943. Published by Paul Ayres (A0.772883).

An arrangement for unaccompanied 3-part voices (soprano, alto, baritone) of the traditional Cornish Christmas carol (Now the holly bears a berry). Just like The holly and the ivy, this song associates attributes of the natural world (in this case, colours of holly berries) with theological aspects of the nativity story. This arrangement could easily fit into a service of lessons and carols, or any themed programme on the subject of plants and nature, or be used for outdoor carolling. British composer and arranger Paul Ayres has received over one hundred commissions, and his works have been awarded prizes in composition competitions in Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, New Zealand, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, the UK and the USA. Here's the perfect contrast for your Christmas programming needs. Melodic portions and excerpts from five traditional carols (In Dulci Jubilo; The Holly and the Ivy; The First Noel; Infant Holy, Infant Lowly; and Song of the Crib), are gently woven together, treated canonically, and often partnered in this most expressive and creative selection. Extremely accessible and distinctive. Certain to be a favorite of both singers and audience. Equally appropriate for school or church. Don't miss this one! Also available for Two-part (15/1223H).
