Choral Choir,Choral (SSA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1317505 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Angelica Dunsavage. A Cappella,Contest,Festival,Instructional,Traditional. 19 pages. Canorous Music Publishing #906169. Published by Canorous Music Publishing (A0.1317505). Trebled Seas combines three popular 19th-century sea shanties into an epic voyage on the high seas. Cape Cod Girls, originating from North America, is traditionally thought of as a short-drag shanty used in activities such as raising sails. Its lyrics vary from version to version between “heave”, “haul”, and “bound” away, depending on the physical activity required. Jolly Sailor Bold first appears in a collection of sailing songs out of London, but has many similarities to the Irish ballad The Banks of Claudy. While not used as a working song, its minor tonality and association to sailing folklore makes for an interesting middle point along the journey. This setting contains a newly written verse warning of the dangers of sirens, mythical creatures known to sing to lure sailors to their doom. Lastly, Leave Her, Johnny is a pump shanty, usually one of the last activities done as a ship docks. In these types of pieces, sailors sing to complain about the rough conditions aboard, knowing they are soon to leave and will face no punishment. While sea shanties have been popular repertoire for tenor/bass ensembles, there has been a distinct lack of arranging for treble choirs. Historical research is discovering more and more evidence that while piracy and sailing was male-dominated, female captains like Anne Bonny, Mary Read, Zheng Yi Sao and others made their mark on the high seas. This piece is dedicated to the women that his-tory has forgotten.

Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1257261 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Folk,Historic,Patriotic,Traditional. Octavo. 11 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #850592. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1257261). Here’s a new SSA choir arrangement of that ever-popular American folksong Shenandoah.  The original song probably has its origins among the French Canadians who traded with Native Americans around the Great Lakes during the sixteenth century. These traders exchanged weapons and tools for animal furs, especially beaver pelts. Paddling their canoes along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers the traders were well-known for their singing. However, as most of the traders were illiterate, the songs were never written down and went through numerous changes over the years and centuries. In most versions of the song, the lyrics tell of a seafarer, possibly a canoeing fur-trader, who was in love with the daughter of Shenandoah, a Native American Chief who lived in what is now the state of Virginia. Shenandoah was a real person: evidently an individual of commanding presence who lived for over a hundred years.  Shenandoah became one of the most popular capstan shanties, a slow song which set a manageable pace for the crew in a heavy and lengthy task. Most versions of the song have a similar couplet at the end of each verse. In some transcriptions, the melody is written out entirely in 4/4 time; others use triple time and some arrangements use a mixture of both. In this version, the lyrics have been selected from different versions of the song. This SSA arrangement for choir and piano is conceived for boy choir or girl choir and within easy technical reach of amateur or school choirs. The top soprano note is high F on the treble staff and the other parts fall well within the usual choral range. Each section of the choir takes the melody at some point. With a running time of 04:00 this piece is enjoyable to sing and hear. It’s an essential addition to your choir’s repertoire.

Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.768519 Composed by Giacomo Puccini. Arranged by Roar Kvam. Christian,Romantic Period,Sacred. Octavo. 15 pages. KVAMusic Edition #6082661. Published by KVAMusic Edition (A0.768519). This short Requiem by Giacomo Puccini (1858–1924) was commissioned by the publisher Giulio Ricordi, who wanted to mark the fourth anniversary (27 January 1905) of the death of Verdi by celebrating the memory of the King of 19th century Italian opera with a work composed by his successor on the opera stages of the world. According to a note by the composer on the first page of the manuscript, the piece was completed on 14 January 1905 in Milan and thus it belongs to the period in which the composer from Lucca had reached his full maturity, at a point in time between the fiasco of the premiere of Madama Butterfly at La Scala, Milan (1904) and the premiere of his next opera, La Fanciulla del West (1910).Today the work is often performed, since this setting for three voices can be easily performed by amateur choirs and requires only a viola (or violin) and a harmonium (or organ) as accompanying instruments. Our edition is for treble- or female voices choir, viola (violin) and harmonium (organ).

Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1251832 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Celtic,Folk,Irish,Multicultural,Wedding,World. Octavo. 9 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #846048. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1251832). This lovely folksong is thought to have come from Scotland, though similar versions have been recorded in other parts of Britain. The song is also known as “O Waly, Waly” which means something like “woe is me”. For such an old song, it is not surprising that there are many variations of the lyrics. An early version of the modern lyrics was consolidated by the British folksong collector Cecil Sharp in 1906 using multiple older sources in southern England. There are many sets of lyrics with different story-lines. This was because performers would often create new lyrics for the song. This melody has attracted a family of lyrics many of which bear little relationship to each other. The words used in this choral arrangement reflect the popular and optimistic lyrics used during the twentieth century. The song was made popular by many folk singers notably Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. It has become one of the most popular folk songs today, largely because of its beautiful tune. But as with the lyrics, there are many variations on the melody with the result that no single variation can be considered the “correct” one. This SSA arrangement by Colin Kirkpatrick is ideal for boy choir, amateur choir, school or college choir. Each section of the choir as the melody line at some point and there are attractive and evocative counter-melodies. In the Soprano 1 part (which has one brief divisi section), the highest note is G5 (the G just above the staff) and the highest note in the Soprano 2 part is E5 (near the top of the treble staff). The Alto part has a range of G below Middle C (G4) up to B flat in the middle of the treble staff. The piano part is an integral part of the arrangement and therefore essential. The music begins in E flat and modulates to C major. Running at just over three minutes, the work is sure to be popular with choir and audiences alike. Note that the audio sample cannot yet render the words.

This SAT arrangement for choir and piano is intended for high school, college or amateur choir and is ideal if the number of male voices is limited. The song is set in E flat major and modulates into F major. There is only one brief divisi passage (3 measure) of sustained notes in the soprano part. The top soprano note is F5 on the top line of the treble staff and the lowest note is E ♭ on the lowest line of the staff. The top alto note is B♭ (mid-staff) (B♭4) and the lowest note is B ♭3. The top tenor note is D4 (middle of treble staff) and the lowest note (only twice) is the low B flat (with an optional B flat an octave higher). With a running time of 04:00 this piece is enjoyable to sing and hear. It would make a useful addition to your choir’s repertoire.
