My Song Is Love Unknown is a known best as a hymn by Samuel Crossman, written in 1664. It is predominantly used as a hymn for Good Friday usually in a setting by John Ireland who evidently composed it over lunch one day. This is a completely new SSA setting of Crossman’s wonderful text by Colin Kirkpatrick. In this setting there are opportunities for alto solos though they can be sung tutti if more appropriate. The keyboard part is essential though there is an a capella section in the middle. The highest note in the soprano part is one A flat above the treble staff. This is an accessible arrangement with rich harmonies and soaring melodic lines. It is sure to be a success at Easter occasions. Other SSA titles in this series of three Easter canticles are “Alone Thy goes forth, O Lord (Text by Peter Abelard 1079-1142)†and “A Time to Watch, A time to Pray (Text by John Mason Neale 1818-1866â€. In the audio sample, soprano 1 is played by the flute, soprano 2 by the oboe and alto by the clarinet.

♫ French Christmas Carol (unknown composer and lyricist). The original lyrics of this song were French - Les Anges dans non campagnes. Our English paraphrase was created by James Chadwick in 1862. In the USA the lyrics are most often sung to GLORIA, arranged by Edward Shippen Barnes (1887-1958).

This is a SAB choral arrangement of an old Russian Folk Song May There Always Be Sunshine, the lyrics allegedly penned by a small boy in Soviet Era Russia.  Phonetic lyrics are given for the Russian portions of the music and it is not hard to pronounce.  The Russian to English translation is not literal (particuoarly in the first bridge), but reflects the true spirit of the piece.

This piece is perfect for an accomplished Junior High or High School Choir, particularly as a closer.  The message of good will and universal wishes for a peaceful world are particularly poignant as a Russian folk song.  Mr. Putin, are you listening???

This 18th century traditional French children's song has been arranged for a cappella 3-part mixed chorus. English translation: By the light of the moon, my friend Pierrot, Lend me your quill to write a word. My candle is dead, I have no light left. Open your door for me for the love of God. This song is thought to have been composed in the 18th Century, but the composer is unknown. The lyrics were first published in the 1843 compilation Chants et chansons populaires de la France. Similar to folk songs, there are many popular variations and additional verses. Similar arrangements for 2-part and 3-part choirs are also available.
