It works well in pretty much any concert due to its popularity and the variations in dynamics, timbre, texture and, or course, the incredibly unpredictable harmonies. I have kept much of the piano accompaniment the same as David Bowie composed. There is some lovely interplay between the vocal parts which explores the original text a little further, leading to a huge, impressive ending. An essential addition to any programme, this arrangement is a great crowd-pleaser!

The words used in this choral arrangement reflect the popular lyrics used during the twentieth century. The song was arranged for voice and piano in 1948 by British composer Benjamin Britten but in more recent times, was made popular by many folk singers notably Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. The Little Black Boy is the fourth in a series of An Anglo/American Setting of the Songs of Innocence by William Blake 1789. The seven verses are  variations on the spiritual theme It's Me Standing in the Need of Prayer. It is so appropriate that this be arranged for a soloist and a three part choir with a jazzy piano like in the Black Church.
