The words that were sung by dozens of Jews as they marched into the gas chambers combined with the words that were scratched into a wall at Auschwitz: I believe in the sun even when it’s not shining. I believe in love even when I don’t feel it. I believe in God even when He is silent. comprise this haunting and beautiful song. Can be used for Holocaust Remembrance Day services or in a concert setting. Scored for Tenor Solo, Violin, SAB and Piano.

SKU: A0.1076271

Composed by Herbert Reynolds and Jerome D. Kern. Arranged by Cathy Stamegna. A Cappella,Broadway,Contest,Festival,Film/TV,Musical/Show,Wedding. Octavo. 8 pages. Cathy Stamegna #680426. Published by Cathy Stamegna (A0.1076271).

Jerome Kern’s first big hit (with Herbert Reynolds), this number from the 1914 Broadway musical, “The Girl from Utah,†helped change the trajectory of American love songs away from European influence (waltzes, flowery lyrics) and more toward the musical styles of the time. Its 4/4 meter shows influence of the American musical styles of the era (ragtime, fox trot) as well as a move toward American vernacular lyrics. It also became a World War I anthem, but has continued to be popular and has appeared in films and been recorded by many over the years (Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Harry Bellafonte). a.k.a. “We’ll Never Tell Them.†Performance Time: approx. 2:35.

Composed by Jane Dang. Christian,Contemporary,Easter. Octavo. 10 pages. Jane Dang #5372953. Published by Jane Dang (A0.922168).

An easy choir piece for Easter!

What is the difference between my God and Buddha? What makes my atheistic friends believe Jesus is God? Jesus is not dead like all the other gods! His resurrection, the evidence of His victory over the power of sin, gives the unbeliever hope of eternal life and the believer hope of glorification. All the toils and loss of this life can turn to abundant joy if we choose to meditate on the truth that Christ lives in our heart. And isn’t it true that the only right response to Christ’s resurrection is to give your life as a living sacrifice to Him every moment?

Slowly they traveled to the tomb.

Grief hangs as black as deepest night.

They have come to mourn Jesus’s death;

But the dark is shattered by light!

Chorus:

Jesus lives what a glorious day!

Jesus lives why do you still weep?

God is here!

Christ arose, and He dwells with you.

Give your life to honor His name!

Death claims a soldier of the cross.

Don’t weep as though it were the end.

Comfort draws from words filled with hope.

You will meet your loved ones again.

Christ will return in glorious light.

Angels and men will join to sing.

All our griefs are slain by delight.

When the Lord is crowned as our King.

The Glorious Day

Lullabye (Goodnight My Angel)

This absolutely gorgeous song was written by Billy Joel in response, I believe, to his young daughter asking him what happens when people die and, as he didn’t believe in the afterlife, he was trying to avoid answering her.

I was asked to arrange this as a duet with a cello and a ‘smattering of (SSA) choir.’  As I was listening to recordings of this song, a second voice emerged for me, possibly someone who has passed on, calmly lulling the child to sleep whilst her father is trying to distract her from her questions. This was indeed the interpretation felt by people I played it to who found it very moving.

I hope you enjoy it.

Included in this pack are a full score, vocal score and cello part with what I hope are useful cues for you to navigate your way around the piece.

Other formats will be available shortly with more choir involvement and for those without access to a cello.

SKU: A0.915697

Composed by Early American Tune. Arranged by Richard Joseph Barber. Christian,Contemporary,Sacred,Spiritual. Octavo. 7 pages. Barber Music Company #3879693. Published by Barber Music Company (A0.915697).

This piece lasts two minutes and nineteen seconds. John Newton, 1725 - 1807, author of Amazing Grace, also wrote, How Tedious and Tasteless the Hours. The hymn tune is GREEN FIELDS, and depending on the hymnal or other source in which you find it, opinions vary about who originally composed it. Most, I believe, will call it an Early American Melody, but some attribute it to J. S. Bach, and say that it is found in his Peasant Cantata. However, I listened to the entire Peasant Cantata recently to see if that true, and, although I did hear fragments in one aria that sounded reminiscent of GREEN FIELDS, it seems a bit of a stretch to me to say that the hymn tune has its original version in Bach's cantata. If someone can point me to the portion of the cantata where Bach gives us a clearly identifiable early version, I would be very appreciative. Bach is essentially my favorite composer, and I wouldn't mind attributing the origin of this and many other great melodies to him. -Richard Barber
