His setting of the Agnus Dei for eight-part mixed choir a cappella (SSAATTBB), which is more suitable for concert use despite the liturgical leaps in texture, represents a real, but extremely rewarding challenge for any concert choir. As it is bolero-like, this composition oozes completely split basses, therefore, providing an important, responsible foundation. The rest of the voices give this urgent, imploring character tonal repetitions, secondary parts, third-, fourth-, and fifths, as well as whispered or spoken passages to this extremely atmospheric piece of music. Eight parts, multiple key changes (F minor, F sharp minor, G minor) and the high note B'' in soprano 1, on which the longing for peace unloads, require an powerful and very intonationally-secure ensemble.

Based on the Latin prayer 'Ave verum' from the 14th century, this sacred a-cappella choral work captures the special atmosphere of the mystery of the Eucharist in a musically impressive way. Characterized by dense chromaticism and successive changes of time and dynamics, it is based on a sophisticated handling of the text and a subtle musical language. Thus, the work is a demanding addition to existing Ave verum settings, both with regard to the music and to the performance practice.

With regard to myself, listening also involves paying attention to the tone of voice and body language of the speaker, and not only the words. If I choose not to listen, I would be compromising my ability to empathize, which would cause me to forfeit my voice and also make the world a poorer place. The piece begins with sounds - a-ah, n-ng, s -, fragments that are also building blocks for words, units used and reused in various combinations to convey meaning. The same principle applies to music, where simple elements are used to build compositions, and they can also alter the meaning of the piece. - Cecilia Franke.

And so it is hardly surprising that the Latvian musician born in 1988 has devoted herself especially to the composition of vocal music. Her sacred choral work Libera me, Domine for mixed a cappella choir (SSAATTBB) won the special prize for the 'best composition for 4-6 voices' at the International Composition Competition 'Musica Sacra Nova' 2016. This church music gem, in which the eponymous Gregorian chorale is intonated by one of the (two) bass baritone sections at the beginning – over a musical tapestry woven by the remaining voices - and taken up again by all tenors at the end, is ideal for ambitious amateur choirs. The idea behind this work, says the composer, is 'the human reflection on the uncertain – on death, on Judgment Day or on what is inexplicable to us. Such as humility, excitement, fear,and atonement. The chant ends without ending, there is no solution. Life goes on because we ask the following question again and again: What will happen next?'.
