Psalmus, composed for soprano and piano, is based on a Psalm from the Theraveda written by Vimala Thera of RÄjagaha. He wrote the poem after meditation in a mountain cave. The meditation was interrupted by a severe thunderstorm. The poem reflects his reaction to the storm. This composition includes some inside-the-piano technique, like plucking strings and brushing the strings. Mixed meter and tempo changes contribute to the character of the piece.
