This beautiful work of art is now arranged for harp keeping the essentials from the original and making it easier to play. The famous broken chords from Bach's prelude in C has been simplified to a more popular and easier accompaniment for left hand but we still listen to the complex harmony of its inner voices. Peace!

This uplifting arrangement has both a pedal harp and lever harp version that are intended to be performed together. They only differ in the pedal/lever markings and occasional grace or harmony notes. There are numerous pedal and lever changes. The original does not change keys, just adds accidentals for numerous measures.

 

The premier of Charles Gounod’s new five act Opera, Romeo et Juliette, was in Paris on April 27, 1867.  It was an immediate success. In the first act, Juliette’s Nanny encourages her to marry the man her Father has chosen for her. Juliette responds with this famous arietta – singing of her hopes and dreams for her life and of the love she hopes to find. Romeo overhears her singing and falls in love with her.

Originally a piano piece, part of a Suite Burlesque, this piece became familiar to many of us as the theme from the weekly tv show, Alfred Hitchcock Presents. It is a mock funeral march, with a contrasting heroic middle section. The only difficulty is at the end: originally too chromatic altogether, it has been rearranged, but it includes some quick and precise pedalling: C-sharp-natural-flat. This can best be managed by a staccato technique followed by a pedal slide, all in keeping with the character of the piece.
