This famous Shaker quick dance has many names including Tis a Gift to be Simple, Simple Gifts, and Lord of the Dance. Aaron Copland included the melody in his ballet, Appalachian Spring (1944). Arrangements of Simple Gifts has been sung at three US Presidential Inaugurations (1985, 1993 and 2009).   The Multi-level pieces were initially arranged in an A Version. When that was completed, it was then simplified to form the B Version.  The B Version has thinner lines and allows more time for placing the fingers. The purpose is to permit harpists of various playing levels to enjoy performing together. In the key of D, the melody is divided evenly between parts. There are no pedal or lever changes. Dynamics are clearly marked. Shaker songs were quite often sung in rounds.

As promised, here is a version of Canon in D Major for the harp, in B minor. Originally by Johann Pachelbel, this version of his Canon has been transposed down a minor third, and displays a playing time of 9 minutes. The level of intensity isn't extremely difficult, save a few parts, and should be relatively easy to play for the rest of the time- timing and duration might be an issue. All other embellishments are up to the player and/or conductor, and dynamics are free to interpret as per usual.

The harp is a very special atribute from David. He played the harp for Saul, so it definitely had to be a harp accompaniment in this music.This score is the harp score. A combined arrangement for harp trio of the American folk songs Shenandoah and Old Virginia (a reel whose melody is very similar to Flowers of Edinburgh). The melodies are each stated in solo versions in a medley and then combined in an overlay. The entire arrangement is in the key of C major with no accidentals. Harp 1 (advanced) plays the melody of Shenandoah in octaves along with other harmonic additions, also carrying the fast paced melody line of Old Virginia in a single solo line divided between the hands. Harp 2 (intermediate) plays the accompaniment for both tunes using various patterns of both triad and seventh chord harmony. Harp 3 (introductory) plays a harmonic reinforcement to Harp 2 in quarter, half, dotted half and whole note intervals. While Harp 3 is optional, it is still an important part of the arrangement.
