Silent Durations XVIII (a Zen experience) was commissioned by the Compagnie du Coq à l'Ane for Sylvie Bouchetière and premiered by her at Cap Sud in Poitiers, France on March 1, 2006. I have included both the original electronic version for the Blue harp and an alternative version for acoustic harp. These versions employ the use of fingertips, nails and hairclips to produce special timbres and bell sounds. These Silent Duration pieces are notable for their incorporation of silence as an integral part of the compositional fabric. The duration is 4'30 for the Blue harp version and 4'15 for the acoustic version.
