Claire Ryan has arranged James Mountain’s Like a River Glorious for solo lever harp. Ryan’s arrangement of this picturesque hymn utilizes the full range of the 34-string lever harp, and the constant arpeggios and rolled chords cause the harp’s full resonance to sing out beautifully.
Repeating right hand patterns create a cascading, running water effect at the beginning and end of the piece, contrasted by low chords, left hand melody, and left hand crossovers. Verses 2-3 explore dissonance, rolled chords, arpeggios, and other techniques to create color and contrast.

Johannes Brahms (1833-97) was a Romantic German composer and virtuoso pianist, who maintained a classical sense of form in his works. He composed for piano, organ, orchestra, chamber ensemble, voice and chorus. This waltz has been arranged from the original piano score for harp. It presents a melodic scalic study and an effective sight reading exercise, whilst providing a great model for developing use of efficient pedal changes.

Arranged for pedal harp, this beautiful piece from the 1995 movie Braveheart, is for intermediate level players. It has several pedal changes but they can easily be achieved due to the slow performing tempo. It begins with a simple Scottish-sounding melody and then grows with a series of lush chords in the center of the song. Gorgeous!

This sweet arrangement of the very popular Away in a Manger incorporates two common melodies. This hymn has long been claimed to be the work of Martin Luther, but researchers now believe that it may be completely American in origin. The two tunes employed are by William J. Kirkpatrick and James Ramsey Murray. Americans typically use the melody by Kirkpatrick (sometimes known as Mueller), while the common melody in England is the one by Murray (also known as Cradle Song).
