By Paul Desmond. By Paul Desmond. Arranged by Tamsin Dearnley. Jazz. Score. 6 pages. Tamsin Dearnley #1046085. Published by Tamsin Dearnley (A0.1467788).

Wow the onlookers at your next concert with this exciting arrangement of one of the world's best-loved jazz pieces, specially arranged to be playable on the lever harp without sacrificing any of those jazzy harmonies!

This advanced solo contains quite a number of lever changes and slides, but it is incredibly fun to play and a real crowd pleaser if you're looking for something a bit different for that next recital!

All lever indications are given in the appropriate places. This arrangement is written for lever harps tuned in E flat. The range of the piece is E2 - C6. To make it playable on the lever harp, please note that the key has been changed to E minor from the original E flat minor.

Composed by Tyler J. Holt. Contemporary. Score. 28 pages. TJHoltMusic #6137483. Published by TJHoltMusic (A0.1021624).

Sonata for Harp, Op. 17 was composed out of the desire to write for an instrument I had not previously written for at the time. The themes used throughout the entire sonata are revolved around the limitations of the harp pedals.

The first movement, in Bb major, utilizes Sonata-Allegro form and revolves around the dialogue of two themes and constant motion, which are developed further in the development section. Structurally and tonally, the principles of this form, as well as the piece overall, is applied is the same as in a Mozart piece.

The second movement, in E major, which is the tritone to Bb, is in ternary form and opens with a melody that represents prayer. Following this prayer is a chorale that gradually becomes more grandiose in nature. A motive of loud planing chords is the answer to this prayer, which is followed by the softer motive that transitions into the next section. The theme is a simple melody containing planing fifths in the left hand, which is accompanied by ornamentation in the right hand. In the final section, a combination of themes, including the initial prayer motive and chorale motive, return and closes the movement.

The third movement, in Bb major, is also in ternary form with rondo-esque tendencies. One central theme culminates the final movement of this sonata, which is brought through different tonal centers. Furthermore, it is presented in the form of a waltz in the middle section of the piece. While joyful in nature, there are humorous moments such as terrace dynamics implanted to surprise and keep the listener engaged throughout the movement.

I. Allegro giojoso
II. Adagio religioso

SKU: A0.1370432

Composed by Jay Chattaway. Arranged by Rachael Acheson. 20th Century,Celtic,Film/TV,Irish,Pop,Video Game. Score. 3 pages. TheHarpLibrarian #954803. Published by TheHarpLibrarian (A0.1370432).

This arrangement of Captain Picard's Air from the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode The Inner Light is fitted specifically to the range of a 26-string lever harp, like Harpsicle Harps or Dusty String Ravenna. While there are some complex rhythms and silences to count through, the notation itself is relatively simple -- intended to reflect the sparse, lonely/hopeful nature of the original song, which was played on a solo pennywhistle.

It is written in the key of G Major (one sharp), which means it can be played on Harpsicle models that are not fully levered (e.g. Sharpsicles, as well as Fullsicles), and there are no lever changes or accidentals. If the harmonics are omitted, and the dotted rhythms counted carefully, this piece could be accessible to a late-beginner, at least from a technique standpoint. Beginner harpists who have little or no prior background in reading sheet music might struggle with the leger lines, though.

Please note that the preview cuts off after the first half-page of score. When you download your purchase, you will recieve a pdf that contains both the preview and the full score.

Arranged by Joyce Rice. Celtic,Concert,Folk. Score. 21 pages. Afghan Press Music for the Harp #4802084. Published by Afghan Press Music for the Harp (A0.797300).

Six tunes arranged for a duo of pedal harp and lever harp. The pedal (teacher) part is written in the spirit of parlor music of a century ago. It is lush and arpeggiated, easily sight read by the advanced harpist, and of intermediate difficulty, with the student part in small cue notes. The student (easy) part compliments the teacher part, and consists mainly of melody, single notes in both hands, no chords, very easy, some drones in the left hand. The right hand plays quite high, so a knowledge of notes above the treble staff is necessary. Dynamics and fingerings are marked. Each tune is written to segue into the next, making it a very nice recital piece.

This gorgeous rendition of “It Is Well With My Soul” will soon become a staple in your repertoire. It really suits the peaceful nature of the harp and will bring so much comfort to those who hear you play it! You can do many things to take this piece to the next level in terms of timing and making it sound as musical as possible.

Difficulty Level and Skills Required: Late-Intermediate. The right hand plays the melody line embellished with chords underneath, along with a couple of thumb slides and quick placing. The left hand has more challenging cross-unders with 10th intervals, brush muffles, and several lever changes. Both hands do some jumping between registers, and there are many rolled chords and some tempo changes throughout the piece.

Type of Harp: Big harp version is for 33-string harps and larger. Small harp version is for 26 string harps and larger.

Range: For big harps: the lowest note is C, two octaves below middle C. The highest note is G, two and a half octaves above middle C. For small harps: the lowest note is C, one octave below middle C. The highest note is G, two and a half octaves above middle C.

Levers/Pedals: In the key of C major. There are a couple of F lever changes throughout.

While all eight of these Celtic holidays may not be truly ancient, several of them certainly are; some, like Samhain, have had Christianizing veils cast over them but have kept many of the pre-Christian customs associated with their celebration. Interested harpists will find a wealth of available information about these holidays, their names, and their customs.

Imbolc, February 1st or 2nd, is also the Feast of St. Bridget or Brigid and is associated with the ancient goddess of that name in Celtic mythology.

Ostara is the name sometimes given to the neo-Celtic celebration of the Spring Equinox. This piece depicts the dawn of the day and of the year.

Beltaine, the joyous celebration of spring’s warmth and wealth of flowers and new greenery, occurs on the first day of May.

The longest day of the year and the shortest night mark the Summer Solstice-Midsummer. Since long before Shakespeare’s funny and lyrical play A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the Summer Solstice has been associated with magic.

Lughnasadh, on August 1st, is the festival of the first harvest. A version of the name of this festival survives in Manx and Scots Gaelic as well as in Irish Gaelic, and the name itself derives from Lugh, one of the most important Celtic gods

Mabon marks the Autumn Equinox and the end of summer; for me, it is a wistful moment of the year-extremely beautiful yet transitory.
Samhain is one of the most significant celebrations in the Celtic year- the word itself means the end of summer, the beginning of the dark part of the year. It survives even in non-Celtic countries as Halloween, thanks to its adoption into the Christian calendar as All Hallows’ Eve. It is said to be the  time when the veils between this world and the next are at their most thin.

The Winter Solstice is marked in many European cultures as a time for celebrating the birth of the new light and a time for decorating with evergreens like holly. For The Holly King, modal and traditional versions of the carol The Holly and the Ivy, were used because of the lyrics’ references to the rising of the sun, and the running of the deer.
