Harp - Level 2 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.810253

Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Daniel C. M. Baroque,Concert,Standards,Wedding. Score. 2 pages. Daniel C. M. #5891591. Published by Daniel C. M. (A0.810253).

Also known as Air on the G string. This is an easy arrangement for harp. The rhythm is simplified to the double of its lenght for a better reading and the left hand only plays a simple bass line. The secondary voices have been eliminated but in some places are included to fill empty spaces. The principal melody is almost as the original.

There is another
version more similar to the original work with the original bass line, published also by Daniel C. M. You can find such arrangement as Air for harp (simplified)

SKU: A0.1018894

Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 5 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6056121. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018894).

Programme Notes:

Icarus Also Flew takes its title from the first line of the poem Failing and Flying by Jack Gilbert. He is referring to the classical myth of Daedalus and Icarus, an inventive father and son who bravely escape from their imprisonment in a tower by collecting the disposed feathers of seabirds, then fashion wings out of them and fly away. While the story is often treated as a morality tale--listen to your elders, don’t get cocky like the young man, Icarus, who, in such an understandable state of elation, ascended too close to the sun thus causing the wings to melt and his tumbling to his Mediterranean death--what Jack Gilbert reminds us is how regardless of one’s failure, the sheer transcendental experience of mortal flight remains glorious and unforgettable. Icarus’s fall was not into a legacy of disdain and oblivion, but in truth, he had come to the end of his triumph.

This piece was the first of a series I composed during the Covid-19 quarantine conditions of 2020, to serve as potential contemporary preludes for each of Ludwig van Beethoven’s nine symphonies--his two hundred and fiftieth anniversary was this year!--though they can all stand on their own on any program. The connection, in this case, is with his celebrated fifth symphony in C minor--the Fate symphony, as it is commonly known. I’ll let the listener find their own connections.

About the Composer:

Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

Composed by James W. Knox. Contemporary,World. Score. 9 pages. Knox Music #6599795. Published by Knox Music (A0.942891).

On the Lake written for advanced SSAA divisi and harp.

Fannie Isabelle Sherrick was an American poet who wrote songs and poems throughout the 1860's that captured hearts and minds. I Can Not Say the Sad Good-Bye was one of her notable songs published in 1873. She was both influenced and encouraged by Ella Wheeler Wilcox who she attributed her success to. Her most popular poetry volume entitled Love or Fame and Other Poems was published in 1880 by W.S Bryan of St Louis and she continued writing for many years.

ON THE LAKE
There's a beautiful lake where the sun lies low, And the skies are warm with their summer glow; And a beautiful picture there I see Where the winds are warm and the waves are free, And the waves lie still in the sun As the flowers at night, when the day is done. You may sing of your silvery seas by night When the moon looks down with a dreamy light; And the stars shine out in the skies above Like the warm sweet gaze of the eyes of love; But the glow on the lake to-day Is a glory that never will fade away. The beautiful lake is a sea of gold And the beauty it wears will never grow old; The trees bend down in the sun's warm glow Till their branches meet in the waves below, And the clouds in the far-off skies Are mirrored anew where the sunlight lies. I love to float where the shadows lie 'Neath the matchless glow of the summer sky; And I love to dream that these waves of light Will never fade in the gloomy night: But I know that the things I love Are as far from my reach as the clouds above. Oh, the beautiful lake is a sea of gold And the beauty it wears will never grow old; The cloudlets of Heaven are mirrored there In a golden splendor so bright and fair That the soul is dazzled for aye By the beautiful light of this summer's day. Oh, I love to dream when this life is o'er We shall moor our boats near the golden shore; And our sorrows shall drift from us far away As the leaves that float in their idle play, And the waves shall smile in the sun When the night is over and life is done.

This rousing medley pairs a melody by Henry Purcell Harvest Home (also known to Jane Austen fans as Meryton Townhall from the 2005 Pride and Prejudice movie) with the traditional Welsh Christmas carol Deck the Hall. Perfect as an upbeat Christmas solo or background music for festive holiday gatherings.

“Harvest Home†(also known as “Your Hay It Is Mow’d, Your Corn Reap’dâ€) was written by Henry Purcell as part of his opera King Arthur which premiered in 1691. The tune can also be found in The English Dancing Master, under the title “The Tythe Pig,†along with the dance instructions.

Lever Harp - Level 2 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1380924

Composed by Rachael Acheson. Classical,Film/TV,Halloween,Medieval,Spiritual. Score. 3 pages. TheHarpLibrarian #965699. Published by TheHarpLibrarian (A0.1380924).

This is my first original composition for small solo harp. I like to think it gives spooky filmscore / Wednesday Addams vibes, with a neoclassical air, while still remaining very accessible to a less-experienced musician with a small, simple, or budget instrument.

It is in the key of A minor (i.e. no sharps or flats) with no lever changes. It should also already fit the range of most common small harp models, including Harpsicle harps (even if your model has no levers!), Roosebeck Pakistani harps (it goes no lower than the F below middle C), Harp-E harps (it goes no higher than your high E), Dusty Strings Ravenna, Musicmakers Sonnet Lap Harp, and others. It can also, obviously, be played on any and all larger harp models.

Played at full-speed, some of the turn-arounds in the right-hand, as well as the octave jump in the middle, can prove tricky (as you can see from my own playing in the video!). But played under tempo and more expressively, it could be accessible even to beginner/early-intermediate harpists, so long as you are learning to replace fingers and change directions.

Please note that the preview cuts off after the first half-page of score. When you download your purchase, you will recieve a pdf that contains both the preview and the full score.
Also note: If the preview shows a 4/4 timing, this is a software rendering error. I have already uploaded a new pdf with the correct preview, in 3/4 waltz time. But know, in the meantime, that the actual, full score itself is, and has always been, rendered correctly in 3/4 timing.
