Published by Harpoline (A0.912246). Recently I heard this beautiful traditional song from Ukraine. I knew it would sound lovely on the harp. The song is a sad love song in which a nightingale also features. I thought the a-minor key suited it really well. One will need to set one lever (G ♯) and there will be no lever changes while paying. Fingerings are optional as usual. One needs to have a steady left hand so this is not for total beginners. This piece will also work on the piano but will need different fingering.Now we can only hope for peace in Ukraine.

Originally a piano piece, part of a Suite Burlesque, this piece became familiar to many of us as the theme from the weekly tv show, Alfred Hitchcock Presents. It is a mock funeral march, with a contrasting heroic middle section. The only difficulty is at the end: originally too chromatic altogether, it has been rearranged, but it includes some quick and precise pedalling: C-sharp-natural-flat. This can best be managed by a staccato technique followed by a pedal slide, all in keeping with the character of the piece.
