Intended for solo pedal harp, this arrangement uses the full range and color pallet of the harp, including lush harmonies, flat-thumb technique, and a couple of crowd-pleasing glissandos. It stays true to the original harmonies and modulates twice, requiring some pedal changes. All pedaling is clearly marked in the middle of the staff, and lyrics are included. This cheerful, somewhat jazzy arrangement of this beautiful love song will be a great addition to your gig book!

Helpful fingerings and placing brackets are carefully thought out and inserted. Written in both F and G, the tune is played through twice. In both verses the right hand plays the melody with single notes. The left hand of verse one is sparse but interesting with some walking lines for harmonic character. In verse two the left hand plays a few more chords for added interest and more texture.

Blind Mary was composed by O`Carolan, it is an irresistible enchanting little piece.

In this file there are 3 versions for 3 different sizes of harps.

One in F for a big harp, one in Eb for medium size and the one in F for a little 3 oct. lap harp a very similar one to the one that usually O`Carolan used to perform.

The melodic bass played with the left hand demands a little bit of coordination but the arrangement is focused in the main melody and is very easy to perform in all this 3 versions. The piece is so beautiful that I recommend it to be played always twice in a row. 

Some interpretation symbols are used as a performance suggestion.

Most of the score is left to the interpretation of the artists involved, particularly the use of fingering.

Feel Free to apply in this piece the Art and technic that expresses entirely your individual skills and taste.

The sound file is the version in Eb for a medium size diatonic harp, it was produced with samplers from Garritan and conceived merely as an audio support for the presentation of the score.

Luis Anjos Teixeira

O` Carolan lived in the 17 century. Known as „The Last Irish Bard, he is an Honored and Beloved Irish composer. 

He became an itinerante harpist after losing his eyesight to smallpox.

Extremely talented, he composed a vast repertoire of music and left also a well known number of real good stories to tell due to his rich temperament, social caracter and spicy sense of humor.

The 18th century English carol is presented for solo harp, and is repeated twice in this arrangement. The first time, the melody is accompanied by block chords. While not notated, these chords can be arpeggiated (or not) at the performer's discresion. The second time, the melody is incorporated into an arpeggiated accompaniment shared by both hands.

This traditional Scottish air was first published by the fiddler Captain Simon Fraser (1773-1852). The MacDonalds of Keppoch were a very distinguished branch of the Clan Macdonald who supported the losing side in the Jacobite risings in the 18th century. Tune is played twice with variations, with a four-bar interlude. The plaintive melody is very well suited to harp. Arrangement is two pages in length and presented in two keys, E and D minor. Fingerings and placing brackets are inserted throughout. Playable on a 30-string lever harp or pedal harp and requires no lever changes.
