On the Lake written for advanced SSAA divisi and harp. Fannie Isabelle Sherrick was an American poet who wrote songs and poems throughout the 1860's that captured hearts and minds. I Can Not Say the Sad Good-Bye was one of her notable songs published in 1873. She was both influenced and encouraged by Ella Wheeler Wilcox who she attributed her success to. Her most popular poetry volume entitled Love or Fame and Other Poems was published in 1880 by W.S Bryan of St Louis and she continued writing for many years.  ON THE LAKE There's a beautiful lake where the sun lies low, And the skies are warm with their summer glow; And a beautiful picture there I see Where the winds are warm and the waves are free, And the waves lie still in the sun As the flowers at night, when the day is done. This solo harp arrangement of Arrietty's Song from Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli's film The Secret World of Arrietty is wonderfully versatile, while preserving the key and overall character of Cecile Corbel's original piece. It can be played on a lever harp as small as 26 strings, with the lowest note being the C below middle C and the highest being the third G above middle C. It only requires one lever (the A below middle C) to be moved to effectively simulate the chorus key change. It captures both the iconic original celtic harp part, as well as the full melody (with Japanese lyrics taken into account), and also the building/shifting energy that the original piece achieved by adding additional instruments. I think it also successfully solves the problem of remaining interesting and dynamic throughout despite the song being so repetitive. In short, I am particularly proud of this arrangement.In part because it is so note-y, and because it just keeps moving with no room to rest or breathe, this is definitely one of the harder and more advanced pieces I have arranged for small/lap lever harp. It would still sound nice played under tempo, but you will need to maintain a consistent rhythm throughout. I advise practicing the left hand as blocked chords and paying particular attention to the right-hand octaves in the second rendition of the chorus.Please note that the preview cuts off after the first half-page of score. Sonata for Harp, Op. 17 was composed out of the desire to write for an instrument I had not previously written for at the time. The themes used throughout the entire sonata are revolved around the limitations of the harp pedals.The first movement, in Bb major, utilizes Sonata-Allegro form and revolves around the dialogue of two themes and constant motion, which are developed further in the development section. Structurally and tonally, the principles of this form, as well as the piece overall, is applied is the same as in a Mozart piece.The second movement, in E major, which is the tritone to Bb, is in ternary form and opens with a melody that represents prayer. Following this prayer is a chorale that gradually becomes more grandiose in nature. A motive of loud planing chords is the answer to this prayer, which is followed by the softer motive that transitions into the next section. The theme is a simple melody containing planing fifths in the left hand, which is accompanied by ornamentation in the right hand. In the final section, a combination of themes, including the initial prayer motive and chorale motive, return and closes the movement.The third movement, in Bb major, is also in ternary form with rondo-esque tendencies. One central theme culminates the final movement of this sonata, which is brought through different tonal centers. Furthermore, it is presented in the form of a waltz in the middle section of the piece. Of course, playing with this in Dorian produced a lovely, rich melody and harmony, but further experimentation led me to a lighter-toned version of that same melody in Mixolydian. Thus, the idea of separating the song into Groom and Bride sections was born. Each section is ABA format, with the same A part in the respective modes, but their B part differs slightly. The third section (the Couple) utilizes the Groom's A part and the Bride's B part, symbolizing how a man and woman unite their lives as part of their wedding vows. It is written in A minor, with no sharps, flats, or other lever changes. As such, this piece should be playable on pretty much any standard small or lap harp, regardless of whether it has levers.Suggested harp models include Harpsicle Harps, Dusty Strings Ravenna 26, Musicmakers Sonnet 29, Fireside Harps, Marini Made lap harp models, Roosebeck Pakistani harps, Heartland Harps Air Serenity, Harp-E harps, and so on.The piece was composed to cheer up a fellow harpist who is still at the beginning of their harp journey. The setting on the harp is the key of G, but the melody is only half at home in the key. The metronome speed is only an indication, but this tune should not be played too fast. .
