The Holly and the Ivy Girl arranged for easy and intermediate harp. This Christmas song uses the melody Carolan's Lament, so really may be appropriate any time of year. 2 pages. The easy version fits on a small harp. The intermediate version may be played on a small harp by going up an octave. This is the same tune as elsewhere in my catalog, only this is arranged for a smaller harp; one with 33 strings the lowest of which is F, such as the Caswell Gaelic. 
Written by Turlough O'Carolan, the blind Irish harper of the late 17th and early 18th century. He is credited with over 200 tunes and is regarded as the greatest composer of music for the Celtic Harp.  
He spent over 40 years wandering all over Ireland before his death in 1738. There are over a dozen places in Ireland called Cashel, though it is believed that the one to which this tune refers is the one in County Roscommon.

This is a simplified harp arrangement with only ONE easy lever change.  It is written in larger print with wider staff spacing for easy reading, and is only 2 pages long (no page turns!) This is a lovely piece that is often requested at funerals or memorial services.  It is based on Isaiah 40 and Psalm 91 where scripture speaks of God raising us up on eagle's wings.

Keep in mind that easy for one, is not easy for another. This is not a beginner arrangement. It is an arrangement with less notes in it than the regular arrangement, and easier rhythms where applicable. There is no levering within the arrangement. You do need a harp with C below middle C and 24-26 strings.

This meditative and compact solo instrumental arrangement of Cardigan from Taylor Swift's album Folklore will evoke slow, rainy autumn days wherever you play it, even as people stop in their tracks to listen.

It can be played on a harp as small as 26 strings, provided that your harp has levers and is tuned to E-flat. There are, however, thankfully NO lever changes OR page changes mid-piece, as the arrangement makes clever use of repeats and codas so that it can be contained on a convenient, two-page spread.

The only potentially challenging aspect is the rhythm, as the complex and easily-recognizable melody occassionally brings out triplets that I've set against quarter notes. If you are comfortable with more complex rhythms, however, you could play this piece with a lower technical proficiency, maybe even somewhere in the range of late-beginner or early intermediate. Again, though, this will depend on the individual harpist and your own strengths.

Fannie Isabelle Sherrick was an American poet who wrote songs and poems throughout the 1860's that captured hearts and minds. I Can Not Say the Sad Good-Bye was one of her notable songs published in 1873. She was both influenced and encouraged by Ella Wheeler Wilcox who she attributed her success to. Her most popular poetry volume entitled Love or Fame and Other Poems was published in 1880 by W.S Bryan of St Louis and she continued writing for many years.
 
ON THE LAKE

The 12 pieces in Bulgarian Rhythm by the great Bulgarian composer Parashkev Haddjiev were written originally for piano. The composer had a special gift for composlng brief character pieces that convey a specific mood or illustlate a glven musical problem. Such are the pieces in this collection where the main issue is rfurthmic. Bulgarian Rhyhm, as Bartok calls it, is uneven. It alternates duple and triple beats within each measure. The pieces are fresh and cute in a typical folk-like style. Ravnopolska-Dean’s arrangement uses specific harp techniques and effects.   Mastering the rhythrnic patterns found in this colleetion enhances inner rhyhmic stability and provides a valuabie bridge to solving more complex rhytmic problems. As an additional teaching aid Ravnopolska-Dean’s performances of all of them are available on youtube.

Vira Variations - Vira is an Old Dance from the traditional music heritage of Portugal. I wrote this Variations for a ballet performance. This arrangement is based on the original publication from William Walker's Southern Harmony where the music is basically a 3 voices choral and this arrangement is almost just a transcription for harp. The melody has little changes as the way it is interpreted today but keeps almost the same harmony from the original. It is written in a straight easy way for players to enjoy. Although the title of the piece comes from the hymn written by John Newton this is only an instrumental arrangement.

The arrangement highlights the song’s beautiful melodies and calming nature. It’s such a nice piece to add to your holiday repertoire! Among the many lush rolled chords and arpeggios, you’ll get to play a few left and right-hand harmonics along with a glissando. There are some challenging moments where the left hand jumps around registers. 

Difficulty Level & Skills Required: Mid-Intermediate. The left hand has moments of jumping between registers, late placing, and many cross-unders. The right hand carries the melody line with some interesting rhythms and quick placing. Both hands have many rolled chords, and there are some special techniques such as right and left harmonics and a glissando.

Type of Harp: Big harp version is for 33-string harps or larger, but small harp version works for 26-string harps or larger.

Range: For big harps: Lowest note is D, almost two octaves below middle C. Highest note is F, two and a half octaves above middle C. For small harps: Lowest note is C, one octave below middle C. Highest note is F, two and a half octaves above middle C.

Levers/Pedals: In the key of F major. There are no lever changes in this piece.
