Buttered Toast is a groove-based, simple cadence with some harder featured moments to challenge up and coming players. The beginning is subtle and gradually leads up to the primary groove section, which is repeated three times separated by transition and/or featured sections. The distinct sections allow for an instructor to include or remove any section they like, depending on time or personal preferences. Either matched or traditional grip can be used for the snares. The bass splits are meant to give new players a little challenge, but are still straightforward enough to add some taste while not being complicated rhythmically. This cadence works great for marching with the band at a steady 116 bpm, and because it is split into distinct sections, makes great filler for in the stands.
