SKU: A0.801753

Composed by Connie Boss. Easter,Sacred. 4 pages. Connie Boss #6697043. Published by Connie Boss (A0.801753).

This original song has lyrics that work great for Lent and Good Friday, but it could be sung at any time. Sometimes when we feel very low and things don't seem to going well for us or we think life isn't fair, we should think about what Jesus went through with strength and courage. Any questions or request please email me at cdboss@cvalley.net

Be More Like Jesus composed by Connie Boss

Verse 1:

Be more like Jesus in strength and courage,

When they whipped Him till He bled.

Be more like Jesus in strength and courage,

When they placed the thorns on His head

Refrain:

Be more like Jesus

Be more like Jesus

Be more like Jesus, Christ

Verse 2:

Be more like Jesus in strength and courage,

When He carried the cross to that place

Be more like Jesus in strength and courage,

As the blood streamed down His face.

Refrain

Verse 3:

Be more like Jesus in strength and courage,

When they nailed His feet and His hands

Be more like Jesus in strength and courage,

When forgive them is what He said

BIOGRAPHY:

Sydney Stevens began writing melodies on the piano before she could reach the pedals. Her earliest memory was watching her mother play classical piano. She began piano lessons at the age of 8, and started composing shortly thereafter.

Stevens approaches her compositions as an artist. She paints musical portraits of the things that bring meaning to life: relationship to living things, emotional healing, discovering what matters most and honoring that as best we are able. Stevens' beautiful piano-based music aligns one with their own heart. Although some of her music can be described as New Age, her roots are heavily based in classical and jazz. Her study of classical composition makes her music more complex than some New Age music. Her music has been likened to the impressionistic composers such as Claude Debussy. Sydney's formal training is also reflected in her ability to compose for orchestral instruments. Her latest release, Cycles of Life, was solely recorded and produced by Sydney, programming all of the virtual instruments.

Sydney has a great love for jazz. Keith Jarrett was an influence on her with his innovative and improvisational piano recordings and performances. She was particularly impressed with the freedom of style he portrayed in his performances. Bill Evans was something Sydney heard played as a young child. Where her mother was a classical pianist, her father was a jazz pianist. Perhaps that's why some of Sydney’s music can be described as a crossover between classical and jazz--remnants from those early years. Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins were big inspirations for Sydney's songwriting. She was especially drawn to the deeply emotional lyrics in many of their songs.

Cycles of Life, the title track from Sydney's current release, was composed for her late step dad. The song is about the cycle of birth and death: Cycles of life go on, yet we carry all that we've known and loved through the ages. Time, another track on Sydney's current release, is a song about how time passes more quickly when we are doing something we cherish. Brian's Song, inspired by the loss of her father-in-law, reflects: All that really matters is the way we fill our heart, and the ways that it has loved. Dawn, a track from Sydney's album Seasons, is a beautiful piano-based instrumental with light string background. It portrays that very peaceful hour as the sun slowly lights up the world -- the hour of dawn.

Sydney is a poet. She sees the world through a heart that feels the joy and sorrow of the world and those she meets. Her gift is the ability to transfer that emotion into music. Listening to her music is like taking a journey. She delves into depths of emotion, often taking the listener to places that can be dif.

This is a jazz-style vocal/piano/brass piece that can be performed with beginner brass, taught to all primary students and performed for Christmas Concerts to give some wham! to your end of year celebrations. The original song was written for a school called North Arm so some adaptions to lyrics have been made. Brass section can be omitted, be as small as two or as large as ten or more. SKU: A0.799612

Composed by Richard Strauss. Arranged by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo. 20th Century,Romantic Period. 6 pages. Nicole Elyse DiPaolo #5022023. Published by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo (A0.799612).

The first of its kind, and the third entry in Nicole Elyse DiPaolo's Accessible Accompaniments series of aria reductions, this is a genuinely playable and piano/vocal reduction of Wie Du warst, Octavian's famous aria from Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier (1911). Mezzos who love this aria no longer need to fear bringing it in for auditions, last-minute performing engagements, or other situations in which the pianist may have to sight-read from the chaotic and unplayable vocal score. Pianists may now enjoy playing this aria comfortably, without risking strain/injury. This edition also includes a two-measure recomposed ending four measures after rehearsal 25, making this edition a great choice for concert and audition situations in which another singer isn't available to sing the Marschallin's lines.

All Accessible Accompaniments, including this one, boast several unique features:

1. No reduction ever requires stretches of over an octave, not including bass notes meant to be held or fudged with the pedal (though octaves may also contain chord tones within them). This reduces the amount of rearranging that smaller-handed pianists must already do. Obviously, further reworkings are to be expected and pianists should feel free to add to or modify what I’ve provided.

2. I’ve included less essential, but potentially desirable additional voices/passages in cue-size noteheads so that pianists can easily see them, but know that they are not necessary in a sink or swim accompanying situation. Presenting less essential material in cue-size noteheads also reduces visual clutter on the page.

3. In addition to the composer’s markings, when needed, I have included hints on particular notes to bring out when the singer is likely to need them as a pitch anchor or when it is not obvious which line should be brought out within the texture.

4. All page turns have been carefully selected so as to result in the least possible disruption to the pianist when possible. When an inevitable page turn precedes a potentially surprising note or chord, I’ve included the next downbeat’s notes in cue-size stemless noteheads at the end of the preceding measure.

5. When known, I’ve noted alternate cuts that singers might like to take within certain arias.

6. In some cases I’ve modernized spelling conventions for easier readability (for example, by replacing ß with ss in German arias) and occasionally I've enharmonically respelled brief passages for greater clarity.

About the Arranger:

Praised as a sensitive pianist and outstanding accompanist who delivers powerful interpretations, Nicole Elyse DiPaolo enjoys a multifaceted career as a sought-after collaborative pianist, educational composer, arranger, coach, private teacher, and adjunct music professor. Currently based in the Cleveland area, Ms. DiPaolo has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Ambassador Chamber Players on multiple occasions and as a recitalist, collaborator, and presenter worldwide. Currently, Ms. DiPaolo is an online Adjunct Lecturer in Music at Indiana University; the Principal Theory Teacher at Liberty Park Music, an online-only video subscription-based music school; an invited blog contributor and guest instructor at Tonebase; and a sought-after online instructor of piano, music theory, and composition who includes partimento and historical improvisation in her curricula.

‘The Wildflower’s Song’ speaks of the joy that can come with simplicity and being grounded in the things that matter. By keeping the right priorities and a good mind frame, beauty can be found in the less polished parts of life, and with that idea in mind, there is no need to let “scorn†hinder a positive attitude that is linked to good things. This “Wild Flower†is a representation of a thriving, enduring mindset that can be achieved through those right priorities—that even with “scorn,†there can be “joy.†A song for Alto Solo with Piano accompaniment.

Composed by Gustav Mahler. Arranged by Yoon Jae Lee. Romantic Period,Sacred. 12 pages. Ondine Press #3114457. Published by Ondine Press (A0.866108).

This is the piano vocal score to an arrangement of the 5th movement of Mahler's Third Symphony, Es Sungen Drei Engel from Des Knaben Wunderhorn. This arrangement is one of 4 versions by Yoon Jae Lee, the curator of the Mahler Chamber Project. Version D is solo voice (alto solo). This version omits the boy’s (children’s choir) and women's chorus allowing for performances of this work to be sung by only one singer. The vocal is nearly identical to Mahler's original Lieder version but the revisions made to the final symphonic version, both rhythmic and structural, have been incorporated into this arrangement. Given the wide tessitura of the vocal part, it may be a stretch to say that it is ideally suited for alto. A few ossia parts with lower notes are given where the voice goes to a high register. This arrangement can be performed as a stand alone work with piano, or with Yoon Jae Lee’s reduction for chamber orchestra or with Mahler’s original forces.

She delves into depths of emotion, often taking the listener to places that can be difficult to go without the comfort of a beautiful song to accompany them.

In addition to being a prolific composer, Stevens runs a.
