The 21st Century is giving way to the most extraordinary technological advances from medicine to travel. Even our sports, like baseball and football, are following these new trends. For instance, hyper-speed cameras are being used for instant replay to better officiate games. New sports all together have been birthed from the all-mighty internet. I am speaking of course, of Drone Racing. A drone is a small, four-propellered flying machine. The newest racing units are reaching speeds upwards of 100mph! What started out as a YouTube video is now a multi-million-dollar industry and soon-to-be televised sport. In this piece, I am attempting to tap into the fast-paced and energetic curiosity as to where this sport could end up.

This piece premiered on March 15th, 2017 in Stamps Auditorium at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and was part of the CoLab Concert Series between student composers and the studios of cello, oboe, voice, and piano.

Ukrainian National Anthem for String Trio

The Ukrainian National Anthem is the national anthem of Ukraine. It was adopted in 2003 and is the official anthem of the country. The lyrics were written by Pavlo Chubynsky and the music was composed by Mykhailo Verbytsky.


The anthem is based on a poem written by Chubynsky in 1862, which tells of the struggles of the Ukrainian people throughout their history and their determination to remain a free and independent nation. Carmen Fantasie is a virtuoso showpiece for violin and orchestra. The piece is part of Franz Waxman's score to the 1946 movie Humoresque for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Music, Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture. The music, based on various themes from Georges Bizet's opera Carmen, was initially meant to be played by Jascha Heifetz. However, he was replaced by a young Isaac Stern for the film's recording of the score. Stern's hands can be seen in the close-up shots from the movie.

After seeing the film, Heifetz asked Waxman to expand the work because he wanted to play it on the radio program, The Bell Telephone Hour, where it premiered on 9 September 1946. The work has been played since by many virtuoso violinists in concerts. This adaption, by The Fluffy Hat Music Co. is for Solo Violin and string ensemble (2 1st Violins, 2 2nd violins, 2 Viola and 2 Cellos).
