An expressive Gospel rendition of Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross (a.k.a. “Near The Cross�) has been newly-arranged as an Instrumental Trio.  The audience will be moved by its soulful rhythms and harmonies.  Although it is a slower 6/8 tempo, there are melodic embellishments, grace notes, triplets, and subdivisions of the eighth note into sixteenths.  A four-measure transition creates a modulation up a Perfect fifth.  Appropriate as a Lent, Holy Week, Easter solo, worship, concert, contest/festival, or recital piece.  Adaptable to school or church settings.  Performance Time: 3:30.

Of the 500 pieces written by Thomas P. Westendorf, this is his most famous ballad, and is often categorized as Irish. It continues to be popular, appearing in films/TV, and has been recorded by many over the years (Bing Crosby, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley).  It begins in the traditional 4/4 and transitions to 6/8.  Score and Set of Parts.  Performance Time:  approx.  3:20.
